AWD Lock Question

I have a question about the AWD Lock Button. The dealership told me that when I got to aprox 15MPH that the light would go off and it would go back into FWD until AWD is needed. However, I have found that I can get up to around 30 MPH or so before the light goes off. Is this normal? Does it actually stay in AWD until the light goes off or does it actually go back to FWD and the light just stays on a little while?
