Has anyone figured out a way to lock the AWD and NOT have it disengage at 60mph? Driving on mountain roads with speeds varying above and below 60 this is sure a nuisence. Looks like you could have a user selectable lock that stays on!

Sorry, this is not possible. The 'AWD Lock' is computer controlled and there is no way to override or reprogram the engage/disengage speed.

Nissan changed the way thier AWD system worked due to issues with the '03-04 Murano. In some cases, a large front to rear wheel speed difference (ie tires slipping at high speed) would place excessive load the driveline and in particular the transfer case (located at the rear of the transmission). The gears would strip and the transfer case would crack. Nissan revised the programming, and changed the AWD lock to disengage under prolonged high speed driving or when other condtions occur. i.e. high transmission temps, large F<>R wheel speed difference, etc. This was done to lower the stresses placed on the driveline and prevent these issues from re-occuring.

Keep in mind the Rogue (and Murano) is a full time AWD system designed for on-road driving. Nissan never intended it to be used under extreme conditions and IMHO they have a good balance with the Rogue's design.

I have driven a couple of part time 4WD vehicles (that are always 'locked' since they have no center diff) at high speed (>60mph). Quite honestly I think any sort of part time 4WD or 'lock mode AWD' causes more instability at these speeds. With these types of systems, the front and rear tires have to rotate at the same speed. Inevitably this means one tire is always slipping and it makes the vehicle more unstable. This is not what you want when traveling down a snow covered road at 60mph!

Take care out there and drive according to the conditions.
