It is. All that means is your awd automatic mode is on. No worries...more info about it is in the manual.

Also, if you turn awd lock on, it will automatically disengage once you hit a certain speed and then only turn on when needed.

I thought mine was faulty.

Hello, I just purchased a '14 Rogue S AWD on 4/9. Does that AWD mode always being on have a negative affect on the gas mileage?

Thanks.

On my 2015 SL the light illuminates on start-up, but then goes out. This seems wrong for a 2014, but what about a 2015?

Maybe they changed it for 2015. My 2 014 light stays on. I much rather it was off unless there was an issue.

I have a '15 and mine does this, so I don't think there's anything wrong. (They probably just changed it to not always be lit up.)

on my AWD 2008 Rogue, As far as I know the AWD runs properly because I've seen it in action a few times.

The light will turn on at start up, (that's when all the lights light up like a Christmas tree temporarily, ABS, VDC, etc etc).

the other time it turns on is when you lock all the wheels together with the button when you're in jam to get unjammed, meaning it becomes a legit 4x4, but if you go faster then 30km/h it automatically shuts off and goes back to regular AWD mode.

Once in a while the "Traction Control" light flashes, but that's not the same light as the AWD light. It flashes I think because that's when AWD is turning on and kicking in, but the AWD does not light up.

The last one, the BAD ONE, when it turns on and stays on for for no reason, it's signalling that there is something wrong with the AWD system. it might be as simple as one of the four sensors on each wheel, these sensors are used to control AWD, ABS, VCD and possibly other stuff.

This is how NISSAN designed the light for the 1st generation Rogue, I think its standard for all car manufacturers. My logic is that if there is nothing wrong, why bother turning indicator lights on.

Test drove a 2015 SV with premium package last friday and the AWD indicator light stayed on for entire ride. The salesman made a point of showing me this. The dealer had several Rogues to chose from and I didn't have time to test drive them all, and I figured they would all perform the same, so picked out a 2015 SL with everything I wanted and drove it home. As home was 100 miles away, and it was already late and dark, and there were so many other things to figure out, I didn't notice the the AWD light was not displayed on the dash. Doesn't even light momentarily when starting the car. Called the dealer and he is trying to find an answer before I make another 200 mile round trip to dealership. The AWD Lock light works. Since we had a bit of snow the day after I brought it home, I drove it through some slick spots with the 4X4-i display on, and if that can be believed, all 4 wheels are kicking in when needed, but no other dash indicator lights to let me know. Hopefully dealer will let me know status soon.

UPDATE: Dealership contacted me to let me know they have their tech researching problem. The AWD light is on in the other 2015's on their lot EXCEPT for the one I test drove. Was working when I drove it, no longer lights up now. Apparently the indicator light only works the first few miles of driving, not after that? (my words, not theirs)

Hey Everyone ,

Just a quick question regarding my Rogue ... I have a 2015 AWD Rogue SL premium and I was wondering about the AWD light on the dash .. First off the only light that comes on as I start it (in yellow) is the AWD Lock light and then it goes out .. I don't have an auto light ( in green ) like the 2014's do ... Not sure if there is even that light on the 2015's ? I drove a 2014 and the AWD green auto light was on constantly . As well tonight I was driving the Rogue and put it into AWD Lock but the light would only stay on for a few minutes .. I don't think that's normal ? There were no warnings for the awd system . I did search the forum and wasn't totally clear on this so I apologize if this has all been answered previously .. Thanks !

Don't know that there is a definitive answer yet Benny. My '15 SL is exactly the same as far as dash lights. The '15 SV I test drove had the light, as the dealer made sure to point it out. Dealership is 100 miles away, so called next day when I realized no light as per manual and one I test drove. He didn't know what problem was, was having tech check into it. Also said the '15 SV I test drove no longer had AWD light ?!? But the others on the lot did. Beginning to think he never really checked or accidentally got into the several '14's left on the lot.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. The car I test drove was probably a '14 and had the AWD light on. In my '15 Rogue, the light is never on. Didn't pay attention to the lights during start-up but I'll take a look later today.

What I found out from the dealer today is that they changed the 2015's in regards to the AWD light . The only time the light will be on is when you have it locked in (AWD Lock). As well the AWD Lock once engaged will automatically go from lock to back to Auto once you have gone over 25-30 mph ...

Checked it this afternoon...put my car in the On position and the AWD light did not show up. Not sure if it even exists anymore now. AWD Lock just shows the yellow AWD lock light instead.

IF people would take an hour of their time after spending ~30K+ to READ their owner's manual, they would find 99% of the answers to their questions, concerns and misunderstandings of how things are really supposed to work.

It's really just common sense folks!

I have a 2015 SV Nissan Rogue AWD. I have an AWDlock button, that when pressed, it illuminates a yellow AWDLock display on my dash. However, I can not get the green AWD display image to come on for just AWD. The AWD lock is just for 25mph and less, but I want the car to be in AWD while driving in the snow. Pressing AWDlock button is supposed to cycle between lock and automatic, but this does not do anything besides on and off for AWDlock. can someone please help me with this feature? Is there something wrong with the vehicle?

There's another thread on here about this topic. Seems that the green AWD light has been disabled for the 2015 model year. It was rather useless anyways...it just tells you that the AWD system was functional, which should be all the time.

I don't know why the owners manual would make note of this light if it does not actually exist. I have never seen the green light illuminate even for a second when starting. I will have to check it tonight to see if it looks like its even on the dash, but just not lit. Either way, the 2015 owners manual states on page 2-12 that there is a AWD indicator light for all wheel drive auto mode. There are also other references in starting and driving sections for this indicator light again in the 2015 manual. I know the vehicle is supposed to always be in auto AWD, but the references to indicator lights in the manual is extremely misleading if this is not how it operates.

In 2014 models the green awd light in situated directly under the yellow awd lock on the cluster. The awd Rogue is 2wd for 99% of the time and the back wheels only kick in when needed or when the awd lock is activated.

Actually rear wheels kick in every time you launch the car from stop till up to 10mph but it receives only about 5% of power . When the car detects loss of traction then it transfers more power to rear wheels but.

Then I guess it depends how you launch it because when I do a regular launch it does not show up on the info screen that the back wheels are being activated. Maybe if you laucnh it more agressively but then again how long do they stay on as opposed to the front wheels. I wanted to point out that this isnt a full time awd vehicule to frankie.

I believe it shows on the 4x4 driver's assist info screen. You see a little sliver to the rear wheels when you start but then everything goes to the front wheels shortly after.

My 2015 manual says this too but I think they probably killed the green AWD light at the last minute and forgot to revise the manual or issue supplemental pages about it. I just use the 4x4 driver's assist screen to see where power is going.

I would actually prefer seeing lights when there's an issue or malfunction with a component. At the moment in my 2014 sv awd when driving at night I have a green light for the awd, another green light for headlights, another green light for fog lights and finally a orange tpms malfunction light on because of my winter tires with no tpms installed....all those lights means its christmas again.

I agree. I have the same four sets of lights on and its sometimes distracting. I have to take a look at them once in a while to make sure one of them is not a warning light. Why tell you something is working fine.
