How long did the little autonomous bot surpass it's service life? Doubled it? Rest well in robot heaven with your brother.

It's okay. Opportunity and Spirit are still functional, though Spirit isn't mobile anymore.

by the way, AppleBonker, that comic makes me really sad for some reason. I blame Johnny 5.

That comic does make me oddly sad. Not sure why it does.

I think it's because it articulates, through anthropomorphic parable, the existential search for truth.

Don't worry, we'll forget about it and in 40 years some astronaut will use some parts from it to save the rest of his team.

Did any one else read that picture like the robot would say it?

I found my self putting human emotion into a robot's dialogue. That is what made it EXTRA sad...

Red Planet? Val Kilmer is the sh*t...

The engineering accomplishment of this still blows me away. Hit a moving planet 50 million clicks away, safely and autonomously land a highly delicate and precise instrument on a desolate tundra. Then operate in a micro-dust, sub-zero, and radiation bombarded environment for 6 months while beaming back data.
