Avoiding the little frustrations in life. How does the wheel center cap go on?

A forum for lovers of Infiniti's hot-rod crossover, the FX! In 2014, all FX models will be named Infiniti QX70, in line with Infiniti's new naming structure.

It's a slow evening at Santa's workshop...

The only FX center caps I have handled are for the 20 inch wheels of the 1st gen.
A minor nuisance was that the center cap itself had a notch that told you where to pry it up (good), but no corresponding indexing mark on the wheel itself to help you directly place it in on the way back on.

Well, how do you save yourself a few seconds from trying to install it in a million different ways and the frustration of breaking something when you pound it on in the wrong position?
Here's how I did it:
  • Get the OEM center cap
  • The peak of the Mt. Fuji/Infiniti logo is the reference point
  • Point it towards the valve stem
  • Turn it clockwise one spoke over
  • The peak should aim where the valve stem would be if it were moved clockwise
  • Bingo! There you have it
