For those of you that don't know, the transmission in my 1995 300zx gave out back in October. On November 18, 2010 I placed an order through ebay with a company called American Carz (ebay name ameritranz). I was told 7-10 days for the tranmssion to be shipped to me. I thought, awesome I'll have my care up and running in 2 weeks tops. WRONG. I finally received the transmission on December 18,2010. My cousin (who's a mechanic) was going to install the transmission only to find out that the bellhousing is different, other than that everything looked the same. So no problem, just swap out the bellhousing and all the problems are fixed. WRONG AGAIN. The transmission turned out to be from a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder 2WD, which although has the same RE4R01A model number for the tranmission, is not the same transmission.

These guys sold me the wrong transmission, after specifically telling them atleast a dozen times that my car was a 1995 Nissan 300zx Naturally Aspirated 2+2 with an automatic transmission, and even gave them my VIN number so they could verify everything.

But the problems don't stop there. My cousin now had to pack up both transmissions and the driveshaft and ship them back to Arizona so AmericanCarz could fix their idiotic mistake. This was January 12, 2011. The transmissions were supposed to take 3-4 days to be shipped back to Arizona and was quoted another 7-10 days till I had my transmission back (including the 3-4 day shipping each way). Well it took 10 days for it to reach Arizona and another WEEK for them to fix the tranmission and send me the right one. Furthermore they yelled at me and my mechanic for having to extend the wiring harness on the transmission they sent me because the one did not fit. They said they would fix everything up and ship it back out looking perfect. So after finally receiving the transmission in February, it turns out that they once again messed up the wiring harness and my mechanic had to fix their mistake for a second time after already doing it once.

Now here's where things get even worse. I was told that they would compensate me for the extra charges my mechanic was charging me for having to uninstall and reinstall the transmission as well as fixing the wiring harness. They told me to send them an invoice from my mechanic, which was sent TWICE. They also told me I would be receiving an extended warranty on the transmission for all my troubles. It had been a week without any contact and so I decided to try giving them a call to see what was up. They did not pickup ALL WEEK LONG. I was getting fed up and had my mechanic call them, and what do you know, they picked up on the first call (they have caller ID and were ignoring my calls). So last Wednesday my mechanic was told that I would be getting a call Thursday and be told how much I would be receiving for compensation. Well Thursday and Friday went by, and no calls. I called them this Monday, Tuesday, and again this afternoon, and no answer, so I've been leaving messages. So right now, I'm beyond frustrated with these people and will not stop until I am compensated for the extra charges I endured as well as being without my car for 3 months, when I was told this process would take 7-10 days.

CLIFFNOTES: sent me wrong transmission, blamed me, lied about shipping and deadlines, promised to compensate me for extra charges, ignoring all my calls now

How did you imagine that you would get good service from a company called "AmericanCarz" selling parts for a Z32 on Ebay?

I'm assuming with the 98.7% positive feedback, it was a pretty good idea. They offer an 18 month warranty on import transmissions and a 24 month on domestic.

Their business practices are just terrible.

Thanks Ace, I would think so too.

Kenrik: just because I ordered a transmission for a Nissan from a company called AmericanCarz, doesn't give them a right to treat their customers like trash. I fail to see your logic

dam, just another reason to saty away from Ebay. I wouldnt be suprised that when you do end up driving it again, It'll go out in less than 6 months, then get bs'd for another 3 months about the warranty and parts. Tough to hear that but gotta deal with it.

Do they like Rebecca Black's song, Friday? Or do they prefer the classic Scatman John?

From the story it seems that they are little shaky on their days of the week.

Rebecca Black needs to remind them when they should call a customer about their mistake.

UPDATE: My mechanic finally got a hold of someone there. They claimed to have never gotten the invoice, despite it being sent twice. They proceeded to call my mechanic a poor mechanic who shouldn't be working on transmission, since he couldn't immediately tell that it was the wrong transmission (even though it was the same body transmission RE4RO1A, just with a different bellhousing and output shaft diameter (by millimeters nonetheless). On top of that they refused to take the blame for sending the wrong transmission and therefore wouldn't pay for storage fees, because it wasn't their fault my car was sitting at the mechanics. They also didn't have an answer for me on the extended warranty which they already promised to give me.

So as of right now I'll be getting reimbursed $30 an hour for how ever many hours some book says it should take for a transmission removal and installation. (which is less than 1/3 of the hourly rates near me) Ohh and they also refuse to pay for the extra time my mechanic had to put into fixing the wiring harness AGAIN. claiming that they sent it perfect, when in reality they made 1 of the wires 2ft too long, and another one 6in too short.

Well, they're real proud of their AAMCO training...

AAMCO sucks a$$, always has. I'd rather have transmission work done by a one-eyed epileptic shaved orangutan with a drinking problem.

Want me to send them a link to this thread? We can make 'em famous (we get more hits in 24 hours than AAMCO's website gets in a MONTH). :)

Go right ahead Greg and send them a link to this thread. Maybe it'll make them realize how important customer service is.

I'm in for some street justice for sure.

The real question remains though... who's turn is it to send the box of poo?

I love how BBB accrediated business's really fail. I just had a similar situation with a BBB accrediated business and the BBB now knows about it.

I am a small business owner myself. I would never intend to ship the incorrect product to the customer, or make asumptions about the credibility of the mechanic doing the work. That makes me look bad putting the blame on others.

Man the fck up you wussies.

BUMP: These guys still refuse to return any of my cars. Another invoice was sent on the 25th, and they were supposed to be getting back to me. I'm beyond frustrated right now, and am contemplating having an attorney send them a letter, or going out to AZ and dealing with these people in person.

I haven't sent them a link yet. I doubt they'd even respond seeing as they don't reply to any phone calls or emails I've sent before.

I've already posted on my local Z forum CTZCC and Twinturbo.net
