Good Evening All,

Just got my A/C on Saturday and loving it - I can't stop staring at it. Stumbled onto these forums on Monday and have been reading ever since (this is my second post). I have a question - How hard is the AVIC D3 to install? I ordered the OEM kit that snef has posted a few times in other threads, and will pick up the required wiring items at a local car shop.

I have installed a few other HU in the past but just single DINs not a large one like the D3. Is the wiring complex? How hard would the wiring be for the iPod integration for it as well?

I also heard that there is an antenna that needs to be mounted for the GPS to work - is that correct? And where is everyone putting it at?

The reason I asked is cause CarToys here in town offered to sell me the complete AVIC D3 package (bluetooth and all) with install for a mere 1637.00 but could give me a 10% discount if I did it within the next week but that just seems a little pricey for me...especially after dropping 26k on the car

Any help would be great

First off .. WELCOME TO NICO!!

Regarding the Avic D3 install, if you have done installs before, its not that difficult at all... same principle as the single din install, nothing really different...

key things to doing the Avic D3 install are... with level of difficulty IMO...

1. VSS wire hookup (3/10)2. PAC-SWI PS hookup to keep steering wheel remote (4/10)3. GPS antenna (1/10)4. If you have BOSE, the sound level adjuster (3/10)5. rear view camera install (8/10)6. Bluetooth, XM radio and Ipod accessory install (1/10)

OK, regarding price.. that same kit should only be about $700 right now, everything included! He's trying to rip you off big time! Don't go back to him and argue the point, just don't deal with him! The rebate on the D3 accesories ends next Monday! CHeck the forum for a info on it! nevermind, here it is... http://forums.altimas.org/zerothread/313558

oh yeah, here's that setup at crutchfield for $799 http://www.crutchfield.com/App...ICD3X

OK, next, regarding total install time, should take about 4-5 hours to do it the right way! The ipod, XM, and bluetooth are literally plug and play! You just have to daisy chain them one to another, then reconnect the last one back to the Avic unit!

Regarding mounting, the antennas can be mounted anywhere, I have mine mounted on the dash, some folks mounted theirs under the dash for a cleaner look...

Oh yeah, see my tutorial, and if you still have questions, feel free to ask away!

Thank you for the information, that was a lot of help. I am sure I can do it, just a little scared to damage the beautiful interior.

Another question that came to mind. I don't have the bose unit you mentioned so that isn't a concern.

Just the good ole' basic package. Does the AVIC D3 come with the backup camera you mentioned or is that extra as well.

Also with the bluetooth I noticed that up by my sunglass holder there is a little hole - is that where the mic is suppose to go?

Thanks for the links - I bookmarked them all. Would the set you posted from Crutchfield be the same as the one I would be getting from Best Buy (they have it on sale for 699.99)

Thanks again

D3 does not come with a rear view camera... you'll have to purchase one from somewhere... most of us got ours off of ebay...

here's the one I got..

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Color-...wItem

integrates well and barely stands out as a camera... I don't reallt like the pioneer one too much...

has excellent night vision!

yeah, the instructions on their website are pretty straightforward, you just have to make sure you are splicing to the correct wires!

Hey Tarek, no dis, but in the future, try to post the actual pictures rather than post a link to a competing forum! Just passing along what i've heard Moderators mention in the past... but thanks for the info!

Sorry 'bout that. Tho I'd hardly say that forum is competition (especially when it comes to the AC). It's mainly full of people bashing other peoples' posts with the occasional helpful post here and there.

*edit* Actually, I just realised that that thread linked back to a more helpful thread on the nico forums, so I changed the link to the nico thread instead. Didn't read it closely enough the first time.

Hi,

Any idea where to hook up the pink speed sensor wire? Crutchfield told me the purple/white wire behind the speedometer. But now the passenger seat belt light is flashing. HELP

I believe according to http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=294580 written by rjdmmfl1, it is the purple/white wire in position 30. There're pics under 'wiring'.

it connects via IP bus, pretty straight forward install... not sure by what you mean regarding how it works... please explain further...

also, I see you are running the S60 and S953 Boston Acoustics... curious as to what type of amplifier are you running to them?

I was meaning does it interface well with bluetooth, like does it pick on the cell phone everytime or is it hit or miss. With my speakers I just have them connected to the d3, no amp.

Can the D3 power this alone with the stock speakers in Dolby 5.1?

NO, neither the D3 nor the Avic Z2 have built in Dolby 5.1 decoding.... other (older) pioneer units had this feature built in like the AVH-p7500dvd

I had that unit and SQ was amzing, it had a built in sound processer, Dolby 5.1 decoder, etc... it was ALMOST as good as my kenwood DNX-8120.

If you want to use that center channel speaker, you will need to eiether purchase a different Pioneer deck with built in 5.1 decoding (AVH-p7800dvd, or get something like a rockford 3sixty that has a built in dolby 5.1 decoder.

IN STEP 9 OF YOUR TUTORIAL, "Unscrew the climate control unit from the stereo brackets by removing the brackets (the screws attaching the stereo to the bracket are hex screws, you will need small hex keys to remove these)", WHAT TYPE OF HEX NUT OR SIZE DID YOU USE TO REMOVE THE SCREWS?

I don't recall, I have multiple ones in my tool bag, and just grabed one that worked... I think they are actually stars instead of hex screws.
