Average MPG

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Just completed an 1950 mile R/T from Phx to SLC. About 90% was highway with some suburban and city mixed in. AVERAGE for the entire trip was 26.1 MPG. Most speeds were in the 60 to 80 range, depending on the highway. I based the calculations on the odometer and gallons used for the trip (starting and ending full - at the same station AND pump... geez, talk about anal!). I did not rely on the trip computer. So this is actual. Garmin GPS confirmed accuracy of the speedo/odo to within 2%.

This is a RWD EX35 Journey. No roof bars. It had 7,100 Mi on it when we left. I Had the oil changed the day before leaving and the tires rotated and inflated to 34 psi all aound. Two mountain bikes IN the back plus assorted luggage and bags, etc. Perfect for 2 people for a week. No way with 3 or 4 (assuming everyone wanted to sit INSIDE and bring a change of clothes) -- LOL. I can certainly live with this MPG given the performance this car has. The BEST I can do in my '03 M45 is about 23 highway.

I wish a hitch were available for the bikes. I have a great 4-bike rack that attaches to a 2" receiver. Anyone know when that draw-tite hitch might be brought back to market?

Also -- I'd willing trade away that gas mileage to keep the wife happy. She is on me for NOT getting an AWD model (even though, when we decided to buy this one, we discussed the pros and cons, living in AZ) but now, 6 months later, I am solely to blame for this major oversight.

So, if anyone has the opposite thought and would want to trade an AWD version for a RWD and a little cash, let me know!

First tank was 20 mpg based off of the total miles on the car divided by gallons. Not sure how accurate this was due to the dealership filling it before delivery.

The second tank got 21 miles per gallon. Again gallons divided by miles. This was within .8 of what the "MPG Gauge" said.

2008 EX35 AWD with roof racks/crossbars. Mostly highway speeds and a mere 600 miles.

On the second tank, premium, I got about 15.75 miles per gallon. It was about 30% highway 70% city driving.

BTW, I have an AWD with roof racks and crossbars.

Nah, it is not the octante rating, it is mostly the altitude, and pilot would tell you. High up the injectors compensate for the thinner air, plus you get reduced air friction at high speeds, overall it is like having a smaller engine, thus getting better mileage. See the post from the guy in Denver getting 25mpg average. I am amazed how people try to compare mileage without taking altitude into consideration. At 10,000" fuel consumption is at least 25% better than at sea level. Denver mileage would be 10%-15% better then the EPA estimate, making 25mpg highway very plausible. This applies to any car that doesn't use a turbocharger.Nebraska gas might also be different however due to increased ethanol, which lowers the mileage considerably. For the same reason winter gas gets higher mileage than summer gas in California.

I`m getting 19-20 mpg (70HWY/30CTY) ON MY AWD EX35 BASE JOURNEY.

I drive 90% manual mode (not DS) and shift to D when cruising on the

highway. I`m using a Shell V power 93 octane. My EX IS A BASE JOURNEY,

no premium package, no roof rack...

I just picked up my 2008 4 days ago. Its getting horrible gas mileage, although I know I have a heavy foot. Im getting 10mpg, mostly city driving(Brooklyn, Manhattan). Thats pretty bad. Im halfway through my tank after like 80 miles. I will test it out this weekend when I drive 60 miles on the highway. I watch the mpg gauge when I hit the pedal even a little bit, and the mpg goes all the wway to the single digits. Even when I am barley hitting the pedal its only in the 20's. DIdnt think it was this bad, although the price of gas is down, and I would rather enjoy driving this car than getting a hybrid. My 2005 Saab got 19/27, with aggressive driving, and I could get it into the 30's if I drove the speed limit without heavy acceleration. Seems to not make much of a difference in the EX

Have you filled the tank yet? Do the math manually and see how it compares to the car's computer. Also, people keep saying that mileage improves after the first oil change. That mileage you're getting is uncharacteristic -- even for Manhattan.

Picked up my wife's EX35 AWD on Christmas Eve just before a 180 mile trip up to NJ. With 90% highway miles, we got 22.3 MPG on the first tank of gas. Very pleased...

I'm averaging just over 17mpg. I usually pump 87, but sometimes 89. Hardly ever use 91 or 93. Works just fine, and still feel plenty of power. Maybe when it gets a bit older I might need to put in something with a higher octane rating.

I hope not - We only have 300 miles, and on my first fill up only a little over 15.5MPG and that's 60 city / 40 hwy.

I agree that the car is fun to drive, but I am hoping to get at least 18-19 mpg.

Has anyone noticed better fuel economy after the engine breaks in??
