Hi Guys,

First off I searched but was unable to find it and if it has already been asked I apologize.

I'm trying to find what the average mileage is on SR clips. My KA-T went bye bye and I'm going either S13 or S14 blacktop.

I've been seeing them roughy around 70,000 miles. Does rolling back the odometer happen often?

Think about it this way:

What year is the car? Consider that it'll have similar miles, somewhat less, than a USDM car of the same year.

Keep in mind, a 30K mile 1991 is probably in worse shape than a 100K mile 1991.

Why?

Short trips, slow speeds, low RPM's, lots of cold starts, stop-and-go driving.

Forget the miles, plan on opening it up and replacing seals and doing a compression test anyway.

Well said AZhitman, that makes alot of sense. Thank you!

I have another question, when I go shopping I should have a compression test done in front of me. Anything else I should have them do?

Leak down test. Noted. Thank you!

That seems hard to believe for me, I don't know if it's just me. A 1990 or even a 1995 which is a 12 year old motor only has 30,000 miles?

japanese don't drive as much as americans, not as often, or as long of distances. And they didn't get rid of these cars in 2006, they probably had these at a yard well over 10 years ago if its a 91' motor

they have a taxing system that increases on the older your car is, so they will buy a new car every 3-4 years

If you really want to get your money's worth have them start the front clip.

In reality I have only seen about 2 SR clips with 30,000 or less miles on them and they definately sell for double or more the regular price.

Some rollin back has been known to occur. They do this in Japan by taking out a lower mileage cluster out of one car and putting it in the front clip. Or just removing the cluster from the clip all together leaving the mileage a mystery.

Thanks for the info! I've read your posts and you seem to know your stuff.

60k+ miles on mine...reason I know is because the mileage was written on the valve cover.
