I am looking to hardwire my radar detector in my 2001 QX4.

I am looking for one of two things in regards to the fuse box on teh drivers side.

1.) Is there an open fuse slot that is switchable (on when car is on, off when car is off) that I can pull 12v.

2.) If 1 is not an option, which switchable fuse/wire can i hot wire that has 12 volts.

I am able to find my fuse box, but can't tell which fuse to use.

Any help is appreciated

OWNERS, Redesigning the vehicles electrical system was never contempleted by manufacturer. Luckily the current draw of a dectector is so small.

Your service manual on CD rom or the $19.95 download of the service manual in PDF...........should give you dozens of opinions.

Use your noid light to check around .......the fuel pump fuse is probably suitable for under 1 ampere of extra current........that way if you have a short, the fuse will blow, the car will stop and you will know what's what!

If your cigarette lighter is on a switched circuit (most Nissans are) I'd use it! I have always tapped into that circuit for my radar detectors. It's the same one you'd use with the plug adpator and should be capable of handling a decent current load since it's designed to heat a heating element! Just put a fuse inline if it's not supplied with the same amperage rating as the one in the cigarette lighter plug.

I would avoid using any circuit related to the audio system since you want to avoid introducing a new source for ground loops and ingnition noise.
