Alrite, i wired these factory fogs up on my base model S14 and was asked by a bunch of ppl to do a writeup so i hope this helps. ALSO, i know there are other ways to do this, some harder, some easier, but this is the way i did it.

Foglight-Writeup for S14 non SE.

This is to show u wire up fogs on a NON SE S14 and be able to turn the lights on without the headlights being on. The first thing you want to do is the obvious, mount the brackets for your foglights, the light housings mount to the bottom of the bracket and once u get under there u will see where the bracket goes since all the holes are already there. Now mount the light housings to the brackets, take off the side piece on each one that has the hole in the middle of it, its held on by a clip, this hole is to adjust the level of the beam. Mount the housings and then clip in the sidepieces. Now connect the factory wire clip/connectors, if u had an SE you’d now be done…but u wouldn’t be able to turn the foglights on without the headlights on. Before you get started on all this wiring, disconnect the negative terminal on your battery so that u don’t shock yourself or do something stupid.Ok, now u have them mounted, now its time to wire them up, for the time being I have them on an auxiliary switch (means I can turn the fogs off and on separate of all other lights.) that gets powered with the parking lights. Later on I may power them individually when the ignition is turned on, but for now this is nice. I mounted the switch in the small switch blank piece to the right of the steering wheel where the cruise control buttons reside in the SE models(see pics). Pics:

Now its time to run the wire, I pulled out the ECU to give a little more room to work. I pulled the ECU wires rubber cover/grommet out of the firewall inside the engine and taped one end of two wires to the end of a hanger I bent to use as a lead to fish the wires through the firewall. (Pic 1-4) These wires will run to the foglights, one for each side. Run the wires through the ECU hole in the firewall (u may want a friend to help u as it’s a little tricky and tight in there.) Now run the wires under the dash to where your switch is going to be located, remember to leave a little slack! I took off the glove box and ran the wires behind it, also using zip ties to keep the wires up and out of the way. Back to the engine now where u will connect one of the wires u fed through the firewall to the power wire on each fog using a quick splice, you can and probly should solder the wire and heat shrink it since it is exposed to the elements but I chose to do quick splice. (Pic 5) If u use a quick splice then remember to wrap it well in electrical tape!Pics:

It is now time to power/ground the switch. I ran the ground wire behind the glove box and used the ECU grounding point and ran the power switch, for ease of installation and being pressed for time, to the cigarette lighter light accessory. Remember to put an inline fuse between the power and the switch!!!!!! I used a 20-amp fuse. I connected all the wires using female/male spade connectors (makes it easy to plug into the switch.)Now that u have the switch mounted/powered/and grounded…its time to plug in the wires that u connected to the fogs/fed through the firewall. I plugged both wires into the same connector (u have to unless your weird and want a switch for each light…which would be really gay, but I know there’s some of u out there that think its cool;-)) and plugged those into the accessory port of the switch. Pics: (I had to shave some plastic off of the bottom of the hole so the switch would fit through, u can kind of see it)

Now you have your switch wired up and mounted, you can now put your interior back together!!!! YAY! WOOT! WAAAHOO! Yeah I know, your not that excited yet. But put the ECU back in its place, zip tie or twisty tie all your loose wires that u ran and are hanging to low, put the interiors back together and BAM, interior is like its never been touched…cept for that extra switch ;-). Now its time to go back under the hood, it’s a good idea to wrap the wires up in wire conduit (wire loom) or electrical tape and I used zip ties to keep the wires close to the shock tower…tying them to existing wires…just make sure u know what your zip tying too…so u don’t zip tie to something hot that will melt everything. Its now time to reconnect the negative battery terminal and turn on your parking lights….NOW…hit that switch…and BLING BLING, look at that bright, shining fog light thing! Any questions can be sent to 240sx2nr95 through NICO email…if that doesn’t work, then send to [email protected]. Enjoy and good luck!

I make no guarantee of any of the work that has been stated here. Modify your car at your own risk. I am not liable for any problems/injuries/etc. due to modifying your lighting/electrical system.

hope that helps.-Dan

About time, heh. I can't wait to read it and attempt to do this myself. I hate electric stuff so I doubt I will be able to ya know, but hey at least I will know I have instructions to do it if I want to.

very informative right up. I would like to make a suggestion though. where you are feeding the wire through the fire wall at the ecm boot. your pic makes me cringe. because that is a short waiting to happen.http://images.cardomain.com/me...l.jpg

I recommend peircing the rubber boot and feeding the wires through it. Make the hole small enough so it is tough to push the wires through. That will help keep the seal and beyond just that apply some silicone sealer to it to assure a water proof seal. a small amount should be enough if the rubber is tightly wrapped around the wires. Dab it in with your fingers.

NISTECH, that pic was taken right at the beginning just to find a hole in the firewall, they now go through the boot and are nice and sealed, in addition, all the wires in the engine bay are kept out of the way and in place using wire conduit/loom ziptied to existing wires, i made sure i knew wat everything was touching b4 i was done. i'd get a pic to show u, but my cameras gone for good:(

Man,

Great post. I just received my fogs in nearly new condition. That's some serious fogs, unlike that ebay crap. What do I need to do to wire them without a switch so they turn on with HL together? Is there a P-n-P solution ? Like some nissan harness or something.

I'm just testing waters. Gonna get FSM in a couple of days and know for sure.

Thanks

thats excellent information, however i dont' like your fog light switch ( looks too autoZone-ish). I went to my Nissan dealership, and ordered a frontier fog light switch and put it in the center console/arm rest area where you have extra unused buttons, looks stock and works perfect. just my .02 cents.

and btw, i have the HID fog light combination on my base model and it mocks a IS300 a little

MOTOP, u can b a new or used factory headlight/urn sgnal lever with the foglight switch already attached, all the SE models came with them. your car already has the connector attached to the frontend lighting harnesses so u can just plug them in, but they wont turn on without the factory lever. u can wire them directly to your parking lights to have them turn on when the parking lights come on. i personally dont like the idea of 'tapping' into the headlight power bcuz it already uses so much power...

VUSE1, thats a really good idea, i have no idea wat the frontier switch looks like, for this project i was litterally gettin supplies on watever change i could find around the house/in the street, lol. so i had to geta cheap switch, DONT GET ONE WITH A LIGHT IN IT!!! its bright and annoying. ill be replacing the switch later on... thanks for the comments guys, and if you hvae any more questions, dont be afraid to ask.

sure that switch is from a frontier? it looks more like a d-21 switch. I thought the frontier switch was located on the headlamp lever outer ring inside the main light switch.

It is possible that switch is for the early 98 99 frontiers with the add on kit. I seem to remember installing a few of those kits and if I am thinking of the right vehicle that could have been from one of those kits. but I know the 2000 and up had the rotary switch on the headlamp lever.
