AUX converted to external dvd player

Ive just bought a used G37s coupe, and I wanted to link my mp3 player to play music with AUX. Ive bought the cable and after trying it out I noticed that whenever I press the AUX button I go into a dvd menu, and my music doesnt play.
When I checked the trunk I found an aftermarket 6 disc DVD player and it seems that it is connected in a way to make use of the AUX support in the car.
My problem is that I want to play music via the central compartment and I cant do that, and I really dont care about the dvd player at all. My priority is music.

What do you guys suggest?

Do you have an iPod connector in the center console? What cable did you buy?
