(autoXX) Can the 240sx chassis compete with the top dogs...

All over the world, Nissan products are involved in road racing, track days, time attack and autocross.

I guess i'm just curious if the S-chassis has the potential to compete with the big boys out on the tracks? I've been browsing the net and i've been hearing that a couple guys who compete in the National SCCA events get fustarated with their 240's due to the limit of the chassis...I know some of ya are going to refer to driving skills...but skill for skill can the S-chassis compete? I've had my 240 for over a good 5years now and still love it! I'm thinking about competing seriously this year at my local autoX events and joining the SCCA club. Does anyone here run at the national events?? How does ur S-chassis hold up!? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Local competition, anything goes.

If you have forgotten, one of the guys on this forum (jrho - Jason Rhodes) won STS nationally w/ a 240sx a couple years ago. He then continued to build the car for SM class but now has moved on to a Viper iirc.

The s-chassis is great to learn on. I don't run national events yet, too much of a commitment in time & money, but I'm getting my *** handed to me just fine in so cal.

Realistically, the first year (or several in my case), it doesn't matter what you drive because there is just so much to improve on the driver.

If you ever think you maxed out your car, just let a better autoxer drive it a lap or two, and they'll kick your butt in your own car by a good 2-3 seconds minimal while talking you through the course - very humbling but great learning experience every time.

in what class? I thought they were popular in one of the street tire classes, and anything can be made competetive in EM but open your wallet

I'd think the S might play in DSP best vs SM2 or XP. I'd think it could trophy against the BMW and ITR's myself. Obviously STS has been done but that was with significant investment. Exactly what chassis limits are you hearing about?

Leaving the driver out completely....The S-14 chassis in its stock form is classified in G stock. Its major competition is the mini cooper S ....particularly the turbo minicooper S.My S-14 has been very dominant in GS regionally but I got my butt whipped divisionally and nationally by mini cooper S.SM is worse.DSP can be good depending on who shows up .The 240 is in bad need of a classifications downgrade with SCCA.It is old technology .The KA24DE is still clasified in roadracing as an ITS car.Thats rediculous.
