i mentioned to my dad that when i was done with my V (CAI, strut bar, springs and better tires) i wanted to autocross it. he told me that if i wrecked it while autocrossing it or drag racing it (legally at the drag strip of course) that my insurance wouldnt cover it. is this true does anybody know?

try calling your agent. he/she would know what would or would not disqualify you from receiving a claim.

Most exclude any sort of competitive activity, including autocross.

I also think exclusions cover racing and competitive events.

That's why events on tracks throughout the country are referred to as HPDE (High Performance Driving Events) which involve instructors (like a driving school) and are not timed events, and therefore are usually covered by insurance. However, some policies specifically exclude activities on a non-public road or venue, and oftentimes racetracks specifically.

THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW FOR SURE IS TO READ YOUR POLICY or talk to your agent.

Don't crash..then you don't have to worry about your insurance. Also don't autocross until you have a 2nd car just incase.

NO companies cover drag racing of any kind.

ALMOST no companies cover autocross. The exception is Safeco, because Safeco classifies autocross as "instructional driver training".

It's also incredibly rare to damage your car in an autocross. In my 8 seasons of doing it, I have seen only 1 wreck... and that was due to a combination of weather, poor tire choice, and poor judgement...

Driving rain + racing slicks + fighting the skid = Porsche Boxster head-on 6' up in a tree. $25,000 damage to the Porsche.

(lessons learned: Never fight the skid on an autocross course, and if it's raining, put your street tires on, not your racing slicks)

The courses are generally laid out so that if you lose control, you will safely slide across an open surface if you don't fight the skid.
