Doc and the other experts here, I'm curious if you'd recommend Autopage or not and what models, if any, you'd recommend. I've also gotten a rough quote from a local shop and with the 2 way remote start (w/ lcd screen) and installation it's 550 -- add security to that and it's 650. How do those prices sound to you?

autopage "top end" 2 way remote start only - 550 installed autopage "top end" 2 way remote start and security - 650 installed

i have heard good things about autopage. I almost had a viper 5901 installed a couple months ago but the salesman said in order to remote start the car i would have to....hit the button on the remote, then get into my car and put my foot on the brake, the car would then turn off, and i would have to restart it using push start. Whats the point?!?!? He said its because the push button start.

but Viper just came out with an app for the iphone where you can lock/unlock/truck release and start you car w your iphone. thats awesome!

IIRC if you talk to Toby from the NICO advertiser's marketplace, he'll tell you that it's just because that particular installer doesn't know how to install it properly. I'm pretty sure you don't have to turn your car off and on again.

this is total crap... the installer didn't know what he was talking about...I have remote start on my car... i get in, hit the brake... and go... no off then on again crap...

prices sound good, but I don;t know if they are charging you for the can sl-2 unit you will need so that you don't have to leave a fob in the car... ask them about that, and see what they say... you need one of these types of units to bypass the i key requirement (it only works until the brake is pressed.. if you start the car, and the brake is pressed but you don't have the i-key in your car, the car will shut off)

now, regarding the unit.. I personally am no longer recommending the RS-1000 only because I am on my 5th remote... they've had issues with that OLED remote for the RS-1000, supposedly they have fixed it now, but you never really know!

Also, stay away from the C3 system.... thereis a serious flaw with that system and it has been draining folks batteries.... it continously pulls power from the battery when the alarm is on, and the only car I know that had it installed had to have it removed after it drained his battery on 3 different occasions

wow... now you're on your 5th?!? Last time you mentioned your unit... you were on your 3rd and that was probably like 4 or 5 months ago. bummer...

I'm still on my first(knock on wood) and till working fine with battery still going strong.

I have the red lit remote and the only problem I have it it is... when I disarm the alarm... the doors dont lock mabe 1 out of 10 times and thats only problem I have.

well, autopage is on its 3rd generation of the RS-1000 remote... 1st gen, auto start button was red, and backlight was red...

2nd gen, autostart button was blue, and backlight was blue...

3rd gen, autostart button is red again, but backlight is still blue...

they did that so that you'd know which version you have...

you should go to your installer and ask them about the RS-1000 recall... they should replace your remote for you for free just so you have the latest version...

also, unless you have the C3, your battery shouldn'tbe draining... and I doubt you have the C3 because the first versions of the RS-1000 were not comptible with the C3...

Doc, thanks for the great advice.

It sounds like if I went Autopage you'd say my best bet is the Autopage C3-RS1000 O.L.E.D. Generation 3 with the Cansl-2 and without C3?

What would be about average price for that kind of setup installed approx?

Anyone else have experience with the RS1000?

well your shop may not use the can sl2 datalink... most folks use the one from DEI... either way, they will definately need that if you plan to have remnote start, and i know for a fatc that that unit is about $80 dealer cost...

your price shuldn't be any different than what they quoted you... again, personally, I would NOT add the C3 service to my RS-1000 unit due to what I saw... the even if you get the C3RS-1000, you don't have to add the C3 portion... and to be honest, once you see the monthly maintenance costs associated with teh C3 unit, you may not wanna add that anyway!

I also have the Autopage RS-1000. I'm on my 4th remote. I called up the tech guys over at Autopage and you can actually use the LCD remote from the RS-900 on your RS-1000. This is the route i'm going to go rather then continuously getting a new OLED remote. For me its a convenience thing.

Thanks all. Hey Doc, so DEI makes a copy of the CAN SL-2?

Just want to make sure I'm up to speed on my knowledge so the installer doesn't take advantage of me.
