Okay guys I need a little help here, I've been researching and comparing automotive technitian traing institutes and am having trouble deciefering between reviews based on fact, ie actual credible information, and misdirected anger, ie "I didn't apply myself enough and therefore I can't get a job now." or "Don't go there because the graduates are all morons" type reviews. I am looking into attending UTI or AAI (Arizona Automotive Institute. Any advice that anyone has on either of these schools that will help me to make a decision will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Nothing beats experience. Books are nice and all but I have heard alot of not so good things from those places. 1) 30k is not pocket change 2) your only there for 2 years 3) the first 6 months will probably be like automotive class in high school all over again "ok, this is called a ratchet and socket, it is used to turn bolts" 4) Ive learned alot in the 3+ years Ive been in the shops that you do not hear in books 5) There's no guarantee that you will be making 100k a year right out of there, or a job at that. All of your classmates will be looking for the same job 6) Again, nothing beats experience..

My automotives teacher is a professor at PVCC AZ.

He HATES schools like UTI, Wyotech as they charge too much and teach you things that aren't real world applicable.

I'm just passing his word along. You can get the same kind of degree for the fraction of the cost at a community college and alot on here will probably agree it's a better education.

But don't just take it from me, I have no interest in going to a field like this, so the info I know just barely grazes the surface.

As a UTI graduate I feel like I should say something.

24k+ for 1 year is expensive. Personally I didn't think it was worth quite that much. They teach you a bunch you probably won't use in the real world. You probably won't take apart a transmission, auto of manual. You might not rebuild an engine. They put a lot of emphasis on troubleshooting. Determining why parts failed so the won't fail again.

In the end though, I had fun there. Made some good friends. Learned a little.

probably be much better off checking out a local community college or tech school. I bet there's a place very close that has some nice programs.

school is school anywhere you go.

it all depends on how well you apply yourself thats why you hear it a lot.

I went to MNSU. They have an excellent automotive program, and they are fairly cheap. I highly recommend it.

Plus, MNSU's auto program is ABET and TAC accredited, if that matters at all to you.

Those of you who responded with personal insite as former students, thank you. I think i may just say eff it and move Sac. Cali and attend Wyotech there they seem to have a lot of courses that cover what I'm looking for. Thank you for all of your input everyone
