Car guys (and gals) are notorious for pointing out inaccuracies in TV shows and movies whenever there's a car scene - We've all done it.

As early as 1979, while watching my favorite show (The Dukes of Hazzard), my Dad was like, "Hmmm. Tires don't squeal on a dirt road!"

...and so it started.

Of course, one of my favorite movies, "Smokey and the Bandit," is FULL of these (yeah, the '77 Trans Am couldn't boil the tires, wasn't an exceptionally fast car, and sure as hell couldn't get airborne or go off-road). :tisk:

Modern films? Don't get me started on the FF movies, or N4S, or any of the other entertaining (but automotive rubbish) films. :nono:

Here's five more good ones, from the Historic Vehicle Association: http://www.historicvehicle.org/News/Art ... achronisms

What's your favorite automotive screw-up in a movie or TV show?

My favorite is the last 30 minutes or so of Blues Brothers beginning with...

Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Jake: Hit it.

It's full of screwed up driving moves not known to physics, but still awesome .

Good call for a thread.

A lot of mine come from one of my favorite "I just want to watch something" movies, Bad Boys 2.

First, there is the scene where the front engine Ferrari takes a barrage of bullets and continues the chase on the bridge. The partner on the inside shoots the dash board and doesn't take out anything past the firewall with his semi automatic rifle. This scene is also complete with Will Smith narrowly escaping being demolished by cars flying through the air. The Ferrari also can't catch up and/or pass a FULLY LOADED semi and the big SUV can't seem to out accelerate the same semi.

Next, you've got the Hummer scene in Cuba where it and other trucks drive down a tiered mountain through houses that explode upon impact.

Also, if you watch the movie closely you'll see that in some scenes the H2 has a sunroof and in others it doesn't.

However, as far fetched as the chase scenes may have been, they weren't CGI and those stunts were all real.

Two of my other favorites are the original F&F.
This one is just silly:

But the big Charger flip- c'mon, that thing would've smashed its front end and Dom's forehead against the steering wheel leaving him unconscious. Theres no way it would have done a barrel roll!
Image

That, and the endless amount of gears in any of the cars.

One more that does bother me is the dirtbike/semi truck chase scene in Terminator 2. I know its probably just a 125 or something, but it should have been able to EASILY out run a semi truck.

That, and when they get bumped by the semi, they don't fold underneath it and get squashed.

Forget Nissan and self-repairing paint, Porsche had self-repairing bodies as early as 1985...

...can't believe that wasn't posted already. The Diamonds Are Forever stunt is one of my favourite car continuity errors. :dblthumb:

To be fair, the camera does pan/tilt across their faces as if the momentum was transferred :chuckle:
But yes, you're right. That was probably a film making mistake.

Actually there's a scene in Casino Royale where bond jukes it hard right to avoid hitting the hostage in the middle of the road, and the car just flips continually. That would never happen, he'd have to hit something whilst going sideways to roll it.

It's pretty common to see a show with a car that comes standard with traction control "peeling out." :nono:

Or the ones where a modern car hits something, keeps going, hits something else, keeps going... Yeah, right.

Basically everything from :53-2:32. Hard to believe that car is controllable AT ALL after the multiple times it was hit before it rammed the Mercedes into the concrete barrier at the end of the scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzfSLgWkTlY
