I'd really like a solution to this, too.
I asked in 2015 (
post6667612.html), and I gave up on this. The trunk lid hinges & its gas struts (
https://imgur.com/a/GBpM9) do not apply enough force to lift the trunk lid. They have just enough strength to hold open the lid. A stronger strut does not seem to work. Its attachment point doesn't apply force in the UP-ward direction (from a closed lid position), which would be required to LIFT the lid.
I couldn't figure out any easy way to alter the factory hinge to make that happen. Other cars have big springs to twist the hinges. But the M56 has hinge brackets tucked entirely within the trunk lip groove, and they don't extend into the trunk cavity, at all. This compact design limits choices. How to apply a large (25 lb) upward force in such a tiny confined space? Let me know if you solve this puzzle?
