i say... manual swap its probably easier than an automatic transmission rebuild cuz then you'd have to rebuild it and still put it on. That thing is HEAVY. If you do manual swap, you just take old one out, put new one in well except for some extra things like new flywheel, clutch, etc.

But how much extra work is that and how much more money?

Im not sure how much all that would cost, But if you do the manual swap, then rebuild the automatic (if you have the know how) and sell it. you might break even. if your having a shop do all this... your gunna pay....alot.

my swap cost me like 500ish... but i did it myself... if you have a shop do it it'll cost WAY more.. its not too hard as long as you have the right tools

I don't have a shop, but I might be able to do it at my friends house. (He is fixing his Porsche 944)

I had that noise before. Sometime after I heard that noise, my car stopped on the street. Engine was running, but it wouldn't move. It moved again after I turned off the engine and started again. I spent a lot of money rebuilding it. Just go for manual swap. If you rebuild it it'll cost $900 and up. Manual swap is much cheaper.

Don't even think twice. Just go for manual swap. If you rebuild auto transmission right now, you will eventually run into problems again.

old thread i no.

I had my auto transmission that had 485,000 km on it, but it was slipping so i decided to swap it with the auto transmission in my parts car, easy enough eh? parts car only had 106,000 km on it so it was a no brainer.it was a parts car cuz it was in a low speed crash on the front end.

anyways i put the newer transmission in and it decides not to go into drive, but goes into reverse just fine and backs up smoothly. but when i put it in drive it slips and doesnt go foward and sounds like something wants to blow up.

i should of just left the older transmission in the car .. F iretr uck

There are always plenty of ATs laying around though. Just get another one. I can't seem to give mine away its just taking up space in the garage.
