Soooo.

I have this Q45 trans and I have my patrol auto trans and I was going to take them both to a transmission shop for rebuild and to get the Q's guts put into the patrols box for me. It seemed like something I didnt want to get into. The Q has more clutchpacks etc etc.

But today while removing the bellhousing on the patrol box to put the Q's bellhousing on I ended up opening up the box good and propper and being able to play with its internal bits.

It seems pretty damn simple! all the guts just seem to kinda float around in there and although I didn't do too much yanking or go too deep it looks like I could easily switch the guts over between boxes by myself at home. :ohno:

Does anyone here know much about automatic gearboxes in general? Does anyone have a workshop manual online for one of these transmissions?

I want to know if there are any clearances or shims that should be setup in there- and what I should look for as far as wear etc etc.

The input shaft on my patrol box appears to be a little worn (splined end that sits inside the box) but im going to use the Q45 one anyways .. hope that ones ok.

But yeah. Tips, advice... anything?! would be very much appreciated.

I figure I cant harm anything by having a look in there.. its all pretty simple. WORST CASE is that I have to take it in there and admit defeat and have them do it propper.

-Nathan.

Edit:
I do not need a step by step- just what to watch out for. I know how to use a dial indicator, micrometer and feeler gauges if that helps.

Just trying to kill time while im home unwell.

alright well.

Bought an auto trans book and I did the work myself. No issues. Anyone is free to ask questions about the boxes if they need. Switching the internals over was a piece of piss.
