Could be slipping... before you know it it'll go out and boom, you're immobile... Happened to me on my first SX. You should DEFINITELY swap it out. I never had a problem with my 2nd 240, which was a 5-speed 90'. Wayyyyyy more fun to drive too! Anywho, there are stickies linked to full write-ups on what you'll need and step by step how-to's. Good luck broski.

If you have a local picknpull go there and see if they have any s13s. You'll need a 5spd transmission(pretty obvious) clutch pedal assembly, master and slave cylinder( probably be best to buy at least a new slave cylinder, if not both) and clutch line. If you can, might as well grab the trim piece that goes around the shifter, ecu, and wiring( don't know if the manual harness is required)

My old auto trans did this. I had to baby the engine and do soft shifts to keep it from getting worse.

My auto trans now is clunking into reverse when cold. Shifts great otherwise. Want a manual, just can't afford it.

I wish I could do more to help, most everyone else is too high on manual transmissions to actually help you :chuckle:.

My auto transmission was having the same problem. But I recently did a 5-speed swap. I don't have to worry about that anymore. It's well worth it. A lot easier than I expected.

You could probably do it yourself honestly. It was just my Stepdad and I most of the time. Had another person help for like, 10 minutes. Took me about 6 hours to do it in a shop.

Its really not too hard on s13s. Me and two friends just did the swap on his car. We removed the engine, did the swap, and re-installed the engine in 3 days and it started right up and ran like a champ on the first try.

OP, if you're really that short on funds just go with the other auto trans you can buy for 100 bucks. A rebuild is not worth it, and you can't do the 5 speed swap for 100 bucks. A clutch kit alone is like $150.

Its just that a 5speed is way easier to handle, more dependable, less weight, and funner to drive. The only time consuming thing is a clutch but assuming you know how to drive one and your not ripping it every stoplight, it'll last 50k+ miles. But, I guess if another auto is your only choice.. it should be a pretty simple swap.

Obviously a 5 speed is better in every way. But sometimes when it comes to financial stress, all of that doesn't even make a difference.

like everyone else is saying it's on it's way out. best bet is to find one of the 5spd are god people and ask them if they have an auto lying around. you should be able to get a stock s13 auto for next to nothing as alot of people just simply throw them away. to swap out a new one shouldn't be that hard if you have basic mechanical skills and a few hours.

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/240sx/91-94/AT.pdf then go to page AT-91 and that has a removal/install stuff. you might want to try a few of the FSM tests to see exactly what it's doing.

I don't believe so. Can't imagine what it'd be for.

Auto transmissions are cooled by your radiator, so they'll have coolant lines.

Auto to manual swaps are cake... but if you just want another auto go for it, they sell for 0-100 all day.
