Automatic transmission serious problem

Okay so this is my first real post....Yes... I've searched. so here goes. I have an '89 240 hatch. and its an automatic, after a rather long 20-30 miles of highway driving after i swapped in the auto transmission from another identical 240 of mine ....i parked the car and the next day i go to start it and its trying to drive forward in Park (P)...? WTF! no reverse gear, neutral wants to drive forward 2nd wants to drive forward and when its in 1St it wont rev past a certain RPm (dont know how exactly high on the RPM because my Tach doesnt work) i need your help! fellow nissan motorists........ya any help would be greatly appreciated.....O by the way, its got new transmission fluid and filter...correct amounts of it. shiftter isnt bent and has been adjusted according to my Chiltons.

Double check your shifter adjustment. I know you said you have it adjusted per your chiltons manual. Just making sure you have checked it since your problem started. Its got to be something with the shifter. You may want to try swapping the inhibitor switch off your old transmission, (P/N switch)

i thought everybody determined that automatic trannys were serious problems.....even if they work perfectly.

Wel the shifter is pretty much spot on...it feels right and looks right. i'll be playing around with this "inhibitor switch" which correct me if im wrong, is located on the pass. side of transmission where the shifter lingae ends. .....i think i noticed that when loosened the switch can rotate slightly to the left or right .......maybe we're on to something!

Yes, I definitely agree. automatics are a very serious problem.
