I pulled my motor and transmission yesterday, and while doing so I encountered a sensor which I believe is the inhibitor switch. I could not for the life of me get this bastard off. It was the only thing holding me up so I just cut the wires. When the motor goes back in it is going to have a five speed attached to it so I don't think I'll need the switch but I'm not positive. I'll be using an auto transmission ecu. Basically what I'm asking is when I do the five speed swap using an auto transmission ecu, will I need to have the inhibitor switch wired up but not attached to anything? Here's a picture of what I'm talking about.

Oh yeah, the shifter linkage was also attached to the sensor in question. Thanks Guys

No one? If it helps the sensor is on the passenger side of the transmission.

i'm pretty sure you don't need it. i did my 5 speed swap last week and as long as you have all the wires still, even if they're cut, you'll be okay cuz you need to do some rewiring anyway

edit: and oh yea those wires were connected to the fusebox, so you could've just unplugged them, but oh well.

LOL, I even had everything disconnected from the fusebox. Oh well, did you use the auto trans ecu or did you use the manual trans ecu?

Why are you bumping, didn't jiffy08 answer your question already? Don't need the sensor.

If you are wondering about ecu's, doesn't matter which one you run either. Any auto transmission specific sensors go to the TCU (which you will also no longer need). It should all be covered in the auto->manual swap guides floating around here & other forums.

Just looking for more than one opinion. I've read all the write-up's and none are very in-depth into the wiring aspect of the swap.

Well, I read through your first post again...

Basically, auto ecu has nothing to do w/ your manual swap. You can run either ecu (i.e. in manual cars, you can run either auto or manual ecus... so in your swap, you can run either). Not sure if I can make it any clearer than that, good luck.

If you have questions about sensors and no one is answering to your liking, you can always just refer to the FSM (also downloadable from here if you haven't already), and check the differences yourself.

If you follow the auto->manual guide, you should not have any problems unless you did something really weird...

I went back and re-read the write-up's and I got my answer. Thanks for the help. Your answers were very clear.
