When I accelerate my car at a complete stop, the RPM's seem to stay stuck at around 2,000 until the car reaches about 35-40 miles an hour. I was wondering if this is regular for Automatic transmissions? or is there something wrong with my engine, transmission, ETC.

That's normal. Actually, that's whats considered "ideal" by people making cars for other people that drive cars that don't want them to make any noise, accelerate like they're in a vacuum, and never feel a gear change. Oh, and also get 1300 miles per gallon. John Q. Public is a stupid, illogical person who apparently hates real cars.

does your car have the option to flip a switch or click a button that says anything like,

"power(blank)snow"

or anything?

like on my old skyline with a ****-o-matic, flip the switch to "power" and you get more rpm usage. flip down to "snow" and it's really smooth, shifts at very low rpms. you know, so the driver doesn't have as much liberty to spin out.

My car does have this on and off switch, but I flick it and there is no difference. I think the switch is for an old alarm system.

dangit.. i hit "backspace" on accident, so my post disappeared.

basically i said something like,

do the fluids check out okay? and then i went into a ramble about how if it doesn't seem like a real bad problem, then just eff it.

and if you hear a loud bang or grinding noise later, you know there was a problem. hahaha

really though, are you planning a swap or anything? and how is the way your transmission shifts now different than before? done anything new to your car recently?

My car is an automatic daily driver.

The car used to shift good with a good amount of power to it.

Now the car seems to have hesitation and seems to be stuck in one gear. I say this because it has crappy acceleration and the RPM doesnt seems to reset, it just keeps rising.

Does your overdrive light blink for 8 seconds when you first turn on the car? If so, your transmission is stuck in 3rd gear, the failsafe gear that this model transmission uses during an electrical malfunction. Download the factory manual and go to page AT-10.

W/ the FSM go to AT-39 & follow procedure for self diagnostic to check for judgement flicker of OD light, this is the first step that I will do.

(from here : http://www.zeroyon.com/index/content/view/24/47/ )

I just tried it though and the link doesnt work for me...?? Maybe they moved it, thats the link I had saved for it.

Send me an email and I'll send you the the auto transmission section. The file is about 5mb.
