I would like to know what are the weak points of the s14's automatic transmission: planetarys, torque converter, bands..... if im inlightend on what could possibly break in my auto transmission then I could buy stronger parts for it, if they arent avaliable then I need to look into a manual transmission.

The reason that im actully interested in beefing my auto transmission up is because my car is mainly going to be used for drag racing @ the track. a built auto transmission can shift faster then any human = lower et.

any info would be appreciated.

one of the problems with them is the torq converter. if you bought one that had a higher stall then that would help a good deal. one thing that i didnt like is when you were in a turn and you wanted to get up and go you stomped it it took it about 1 second to downshift and by that time you were out of the turn and it was somewhat pointless. i found a way to go around that but that was one of my major pet peeves. but since you will be drag racing it you might want to go with one that a company has built(unless you can build one yourself, which would be great) one with all new parts.

thanks for the info, now the search is on to find out who makes a higher stall converter.

i dont know if you have the plug that thes13s have. but there is a plug that you can unplug that will make your transmission kick harder when its shifts. if you think you might ill send you the link to where it is.

term for the plug is called "drop line resistor" it regulates how much line pressure is in the transmission before it shifts. If you were to unplug it then you would be getting the same effect (full line pressure) as if you had the car floored and the torque converter locked. The only advantage of having this unplugged is maybe 20 mile increase per tank and a really rough shifting becuase the torque converter is not slipping.

Yes the s14 autos have it.

I searched for my auto transmission mods again and I saw that you (tonynalli) did some mods to your auto transmission before you had to convert to a manual. What are the things that you did and why did you have to change to a manual.

i took my auto to the track with the plug unplugged and raced it and then put it in, and there was about 2/10s of a second difference.

interesting.... check your reaction times and your 60ft.. every tenth lost in the 60ft is 2 10ths in the quarter.... then recalculate
