I have a 91 240sx. I had my friend help me install a radio in the car and I think that caused my transmission to malfuction. I was driving and suddenly after a traffic light, my car started driving in neutral. The RPM goes up, but the car doesn't move. Did my friend short something in my car? Is it my transmission? Any advise would help.

I think a fuse would go out before it would short anything, especially your transmission. I do know the transmission has multiple sensors on it but I don't think a "bad" sensor would cause it to rev like that in neutral. In short, I don't think your friend did it. But, there are things that manage your idle, and I think that may be out of wack. I'm sure if you take it to a mechanic they can tune it and it would be fine.

I live near an AutoZone store. Is there anything I could buy there to get my car moving to have someone check it out in detail?

your radio install had nothing to do with the trans malfunction. unless you cut a wire going to the TCM.

you shouldnt be cutting wires behind the dash anyway, thats what radio harnesses are for.

as far as the trans, the inhibitor switch may be out of adjustment. check the fluid level.what does the fluid look/smell like?

its most likely the vent tube.

leave it alone, it connects to nothing.

vacuum modulators are only used on hydraulically controlled transmissions.

yours is electronic.
