There are a few posts about this in the nissan mech. fourm. I started one because I was having this type of problem. I know another guy was going through the same thing. We never were able to figure it out.

Check out those posts, might be something you could go on. Good Luck!

There were threads about 6-8 months ago that had this type of problem and it ended up being the throttle position sensor.

I was having the opposite problem, my transmission would go into 2nd and third almost right away and not downshift into 2 or 1 when I hit the gas. I ended up replacing the TPS and readjusting the idle to specs. Just out of curiosity I moved the sensor to various extremes and tried it out to see how much affect it really had and I was surprised how much it altered the shift points. Once I set it the way the factory service manual says it really cleaned up the problem.

If you havent checked it already, give it a shot. Also check your speed sensor.
