Hello, N00b again! Also I'm used to manual trannies :pface

Auto trans in '92 240.

I have noticed when I step on it that it sorta downshifts. R's go up about 500 and I get a little more power, but it's not an actual gear downshift, that would give me an increase of over 1000 R's. Is there some sort of half-gear or something that would cause this?? or am I getting ready to buy a transmission?

It downshifts when you ACCELERATE? R U SURE? I have a 93' fastback and it only downshifts automatically from 3rd to 2nd, and then 2nd to 1st if the OVERDRIVE button is off and I'm rolling with my foot off the accelerator. If you have this on your car its on the left side of the AUTO shifter.

I guess it would downshift when your cruising at highway speeds if you accidentally turn off OVERDRIVE. It would suddenly downshift and your TACH would shoot up to 6K.

yea thats when you get up to a steady speed typically on the freeway and the trans puts the torque convertor in lock up to save on fuel. the torque convertor basically becomes a direct drive from the engine rather then a fluid drive that it normally is.
