Automatic trans. issue!!!!!!!

I have a '91 240 hatch auto trans.....yesterday it started making a whine noise from the trans...then the trans started to slip and just rev up without accellerating much....and proceeded to leave me on the side of the road. Totally stopped moving... parked it... went back this morning... started it and drove five minutes home... whine is still there... I checked the trans fluid and it was at good levels...clear in color...ANY IDEAS? ? ? ?? ??? ???? ?????? ?????? ???????

i get the same whine it gets really loud sometimes if im at higher speeds and rpms i just turn over drive on and it goes away.My trans only slipped 3 times in the same incident scared the hell outta me but i let on the gas slow and i got a kick from the transmission and everthing works fine again.how many miles do you have on your tran
