I have a 89 240SX with automatic transmission. In order to get the trans to shift, I have to get the RPM's up to around 3000 and let off the gas THEN it shifts. I replaced the filter and fluid and added in some Lucas trans treatment but the problems still there. Is this a common problem with these cars? Ive only had it a few months and it just started this recently. Im new here so please excuse my ignorance if this has been asked before. Also, could the problem be in the torque converter?

 Thanks-Terry

first off welcome to nico glad to have you aboard.:)

it is a possible tps problem. if you have a volt meter do a sweep check on it if thats ok reset its rest point to spec. See if this resolves it. There is a article or faq on setting it. You can locate it easiest by useing the red search button at the upper right corner. enter something like "Tps setting" try variations of tps entries it should list all related posts.

TPS will usually bring about a run condition or throw a code. Well, at least with domestics. What about the wiring for the transmission? Is this in all gears or just one? If it is just one gear I would say the transmission is getting a little wore out. If it is all gears I would look at wiring issues.

Thanks for the welcome;) .The problem with the shifting is in all gears, not just one. I heard that the a/t's in the 240's were prone to problems, I just wondered if this ws a common one or not.
