Just wondering how much of a hassle it would be to swap out a stock 93 240 KA with automatic transmission to either a manual KA(which I will turbo) or manual SR20. I'm looking for a 240 right now but it seems like all the ones with good bodies and clean chassis are auto's, should I just wait for a clean manual to come available?

I'm telling you...don't get a AUTOMATIC...There are way too many lines that you have to deal with....it's a hassle....i would totally recommend that you take your time and look for a 240 with a manual transmission. This will be easier for the sr swap. It will make your life much more easier. I'd say it would cost you approx. 500-700 dollars just to get every parts that you need. I'm talking about the junk yard. And plus, lots of your time. Good Luck to you if you do swap auto to manual transmission. I wouldn't recommend this.

seems to me that you really dont know much about doing auto to manual swaps. do your research before you tell someone not to do something...

back to the topic at hand: auto to manual conversions are not that hard. we do them at the shop quite frequently. the parts that are required are:

-manual KA transmission (or SR transmission if you bought a motorset)-5spd pilot bearing on the motor-clutch master cylinder-clutch hard line-pressure transfer box-clutch slave cylinder-clutch pedal-5spd driveshaft-5spd ECU (optional)-5spd lower wiring harness (optional)-brake pedal (optional)

i just finished installing my girlfriends 5spd parts into her S13 coupe and it was a breeze. the manual KA transmission bolted just as the auto did with the same transmission mount and bolts. the driveshaft slid in and bolted perfectly as well. the slave and pressure transfer box had pre-tapped holes from the factory and bolted right up. the hard line slid down the firewall and connected to the pressure transfer box. the lower wiring harness was the opposite of removing the auto harness. the ECU is obviously simple. the hardest part was drilling the firewall to accept the clutch master cylinder. its a tight squeeze and i had to drill it twice to get it perfect. however, after that, everything bolted in smoothly and looks great.

after all was said and done, the parts came to a grand total of $260, including gas to get to the junkyard, and a 5spd SOHC KA motorset. nowhere near $500-700 as stated previously and much less of a hassle than trying to search for three months just to find a manual car thats probably in crappy condition anyways.

anyways, my two cents for the day....

But typically is does cost 500 area. You just got some killer deals. But yea it's easy. It's jsut time consuming. Don't you have to switch out a bearing on the car?Pilot is it?

yeah, the pilot bearing needs to be swapped if the motor was originally attached to the auto transmission. i didnt have to worry about that as we dropped a 5spd motor and transmission in together. my bad....

thanks for mentioning that though.

Well whatever you do, you are going to end up pulling the engine out of the car if you dont want to put a sledge hammer through your windshield. Honestly, the at to mt swaps aren't as hard if you have sufficient space.... I found out the hard ways.

By the way, its not hard at all. These lines you speak of, are all going to be thrown out afterwards.

On a side note: nightkid86 wrote a great DIY for his s14 swap. zerothread/181139
