Hope someone can help me....I truely need some help!!! I have a 04 G-35 automatic and the transmission is starting to slip on me. I have a twin turbo on it and a few other upgrade but nothing substantial, est 350 RHP. Everywhere I gone so far wants $4K to upgrade the transmission and torque converter.

My question is how hard is it to swap the automatioc transmission to a 6 sp manual? How much will it cost? Who in So Cal can do this?

Welcome to NICO!

Sorry to hear about your transmission...but I don't have good news. Converting an AUTO to manual is not cheap. I've seen estimates of around 7k to do the complete swap. Sucks that the AUTO just isn't up to snuff with any power adders.

Got some pics?

Welcome to NICO

It would be better to trade your car in and buy a manual than to attempt the switch. the costs are high.... unless you can find someone who will do an even swap and the labor is all that is required. I don't think it's worth it--- too many potential complications and too expensive..Good luck and hope this helps.

I think you'd be better off rebuilding the stock transmission yourself.

Automatic transmissions are not that difficult to work on. If you installed the turbo's yourself you can rebuild the transmission yourself.

Looks like transgo makes a shift kit for your transmission too!

Looks like Midnight Auto Recyclers has a transmission for your car for $750. I'd go pick that up and install it. Then work on rebuilding the current transmission so you'll have a spare!

Thanks Guys, I will most likely just go with the upgraded Trans and torqe converter. They claim it will support 850 RHP. UI guess I will have to start to save money. After that, I plan on installing a water/menthol injection and a plenum spacer. Just hope my internals hold out.

My question is, Twin Turbo, and only 60 more hp?? Do you keep the boost low because of the transmission and internals? It seems that I have heard of 400+ hp with TT, but maybe not.

Can't wait to see it!

You really might consider buying that used transmission for $750 and swapping it in now. Then you will have time to have the slipping transmission rebuilt.

With power adders automatic transmissions are always living on borrowed time.

One thing you can do to make it last longer is let up for shifts. Letting the clutches do there job under half throttle will make them last longer~!

Hi BigWIll, First off you have to remember my car is an automatic, the car is rated at 290 HP but that is at the engine not rear wheels, RWHP is more like 230. So with a TT the engine is more like 400 HP, so I make 350 to the back wheels, that a huge jump. As for your second question I mean Menthol, like wind shield wiper fluid, it helps cool the intake. Kind of like what NO2 does, just cheeper, roughly $1.99 a gal. You might want to look into it, you can install in almost any application and you can keep it on any upgrade you put in your car.

Got ya... I read your post kind of hastily, and didn't notice that you said RWHP. I'd never heard of menthol injections in cars... in fact, in the link that you sent it says, "Why Water/Methanol Injection?"

Methanol is a fuel used in drag racing. Menthol is a flavor additive used in cigarettes! Just FYI.

Actually, most twin turbo setups will make 400+ RWHP. Tuning can finagle the numbers to make it more reliable. (usually make the AF mix rich and retard timing)

That's what I thought I had read Joe... but I do understand that, the more you boost, the stronger your internals, as well as the rest of your drive line, (transmission, drive shaft, diff, etc.), need to be to hold up to the increased stress long term.
