I'm not sure what its called, when you start your car and the sterring wheel and seat move into its driving position... but sometimes when i start my car it doesnt work, i have to either push the memory button or adjust it myself. it makes a clicking sound like its trying to go but gets stuck. theres nothing blocking it or anything.. do you know how to fix this?

ThanksTony

The system you are referring to is called ADP (Automated Driver Positioning) if the system is programmed to one of your keys it should move to your preferred position upon entry or starting. However if you are hearing a grinding and experiencing flawed operation you may want to bring it in to have it evaluated professionally. There is a surprising amount of sensors that are all required to be working correctly for the ADP system to operate normally.

Where is the noise coming from the seat of the steering wheel? Have you had anything done to the car recently?

Oh and I would like to Welcome you to the group, although a little belated

its not a grinding sound like gears or anything, its more of a clicking sound like rubbing your finger nails together.. its weird tho because sometimes it will work when i start the car and some times it doesnt.. and sometimes ill have to push the memory button and shake the seat and kinda pull a lil on the sterring wheel and it works.. im assuming its something with the sensors or electrical. the car is complely stock and ive had nothing done to it. i dont have a warranty on the car anymore either so i was hoping it may be something i can fix.

Thanks for the welcome and the help!!

I had the same problem with my 2006 M35. Mine would go halfway back/forward when I started the car. Always worked when I turned the car off, but when i started the car it was defiantly temperamental. I took it to the Infiniti dealer they had it for a week, when i got it back it worked like brand new.........for a week then, right back to normal. I have almost 60k miles. I will be going back to dealer before the 60k mark and make them try to fix again under warranty

The 1990 Q45 used similiar system and the problems almost always were dirt from cabin crap [fast food vapors] coating position sensors, or eventually dirt coating lube on screw motors creating additional friction slowing down process.Battery replacements were another cause affecting the positional memory.

The newer memory system are more robust. but the mechanicals are cheaper.
