I am considering getting an automatic stat for my 93J. Can anyone recommend a good unit to use? Is there anything I need to be cautious about? I will more than likely have a professional install it!

Hey Diamond, are you on "something" when you reply, you sounded funny.BTW, you can get one from e-bay for ~$50 or something, but i would recommend you to hace some pro to install it for you, should expect to pay ~$150. It would be nice to have the car warm up before stepping in, right? Especially in a Chicago winter, right? Yeah, i still remember those days when i was living in Ohio.

I could definitely use automatic start this winter! It's 9 degrees today! My car is garage-kept, but my garage isn't attached so I have to go out in the freezing cold in the morning just to start the car. It would be great if I could do that from inside.

Diamond, let me know if you remember the name so I can do some research on it.

Also, with the automatic start you have, did you replace the remotes or just have two (one for auto-start plus the Infiniti remote)?

Thanks Diamond! I'll start researching it this week. I'll need to find someone who installs it, too. Good to know you can use the factory remote with it because I didn't want to replace it. Thanks for remembering to let me know!

Big Tone, can you send me any info you collect on auto starters for the J30? Chicago winters blow, and I think an auto starter might be worth the investment. My email is [email protected] (or just reply to this thread...I'll watch it)

Ok, here's what I've found so far:DEI is Directed Electronics, Inc and here is the link to the automatic start systems they sell: http://www.directed.com/security/valet/val_rs.asp

Here's a link to the retail locator: http://www.directed.com/security/valet/val_rs.asp

From what I've read, it looks like the Valet is the system Diamond was referring to. Some of their systems have an option that lets you add a module (I think it's a GPS module from Viper) that let's you start your car over the phone! That would be really nice for me because I ride Metra everyday and could start my car from my cell so it would be warm by the time I got to my stop! I don't know how much that would run, though. There is also a model that has a remote with an LCD that gives you different information about your vehicle like the temp inside, if the door has been opened, and lets you perform a number of commands. Sounds really nice! I'll report back when I get some prices on different models with and without installation.

I found this site that has the LCD remote model for $199 with free shipping! http://www.caraudio-caralarms.....html

Damn. For $200 that would be a really nice addition. Especially if it is portable (i.e., can install in next car when this one is sold). I think the GSM (cellphone) starter would be quite nice, though I bet it requires some sort of monthly subscription. Definitely keep me posted on what you find. I bet a lot of people will find this info useful. Very cool mod.

Autopage RS-855 LCD 2-Way FM/FM.. This is what I run in my own 93 J30T.. Installed it myself.. quite a PITA for a stealth install..very cramped..hard to hide the brain...but it can be done... Good luck..
