Before someone gets a little too excited and blurts out the typical "yes, they exist!" I already know they do (sorry I ruined your moment). However, I have but 2 questions:

1. How many gears does the automatic transmission that comes with the sr20 have?

-and-

2: Are there any other 5 speed automatic transmissions that can bolt to an sr20? or even a CA18?

I also know that doing the manual conversion might be my best bet, but I live near the city and am constantly in stop and go traffic. Plus, I would rather have that 5th gear for lower rpms on high speed, high mileage highway trips.

I currently have a '98 KA 4-speed auto and I am getting tired of it. Also, what kind of gas mileage do most of you get with a turbo sr20? which motor is best to have for better gas mileage?

Thanks for anyone who can help me out.

Ok I have an auto sr20. Lets see if I can answer some of your questions.

1. the sr20 uses the same auto trans, RE4R01A 4 Spd. but with a higher stall speed torque converter.

2. I don't think so but I'm not 100% sure.

Gas mileage in my sr is 22-23 mpg. Could have been better but I had a VLSD installed and it has lower gears so its quicker off the line but runs higher rpm's down the highway.

I hope this helps you out. By the way I love my auto.

I also have a 3 way selctor switch for my auto. It give me 3 modes, Power( later up shifts- quicker down shifts) normal and hold which keeps it in what ever gear I select.

Thanks for the input.

Do you think the RE5R01A 5 speed auto would be able to work with an sr20? Or is there something out there that would be a capable 5 speed auto that will work with the sr20?
