Hey everyone I have a few questions about a swap.I come from a dsm background,so I love turbo's.I just bought a 97 240 automatic.I see that almost everyone in the world does the sr swap w/ a 5 speed.Well I want a sr auto car.I seen one in a scc magazine sometime back.I emailed the guys at heavythrottle.com and he says they have an extra auto transmission laying around that they would swap out for the stick if I wanted,he also said they are very durable and handle lots of abuse. I know all you guys want to drift and auto-x,but I just love the idea of not having to shift and have some boost. So why is it so unpopular to have the auto? If anyone else has a sr auto, how well do you like it?Any complaints? Thanks

the auto is unpopular for me anyway because of many reasons:1. heavy2. bad throttle response3. no engine braking4. bad fuel mileage5. i like to shift when i see fit, not when the computer wants me to6. though they may be durable, autos have many hydraulic pistons and valves, narrow pasages and complex components, all which may wear out, get stuck, leak internaly, and other such problems, making them less reliable than manual.7. less power to the wheels due to slipage in the tourque converter

if your dsm is a auto, i can see why you want an auto. after you have driven manual for a long period of time, shifting becomes second nature, you dont even give it a second thought.

this is all just my opinion, please dont take any offense to anything i said or implied.

i wish i could answer more, but i dont have an sr or an auto, the only auto ive driven is my dads bmw 323i
