My 93 convertible won't shift into overdrive now. Shifts hard between first and second and second and third under anything except heavy throttle. Fluid level is fine. When you turn the key on the OD OFF light will blink the two times then blink 16 more times and then stay off. I tried doing the blink code check, but it didn't work for some reason. If someone could help me out that knows what's going on, I'd appreciate it....or who wants a 99k mile vert. haThanks-Jon

Hey Dude I was having problems with mine too, I lost the over drive an then I lost first gear too. It sounds like it might be slipping, I would suggest getting a trans oil treatment, they are like ten bucks at any auto place and its worth a try. Its either that or the transmission is getting old, auto's don't last forever you know. I plan to change mine to a five speed soon, its a massive difference and its cheaper.

Hey guys. Sorry to take so long to get to you.

I'm not sure where to point you for those transmission issues.

Here's one idea... But it doesn't seem to quite match the description you listed. Give this thread a read.zer...age=1

First couple pages describe problems with shifting. last couple pages get down to fixing it.

I would suggest posting in the Nissan Online Mechanic section. Maybe Nistech can help you sort out the transmission issues. zeroforum/23

Welcome to NICO by the way.. Hopefully we can help you get to the bottom of this.

Is the fluid pink/red? Does it smell burnt at all? If fluid condition is ok, I would suspect either the throttle position sensor (TPS) or possibly the speed sensor. I would check the TPS first.

The fluid is in correct color and level. The speed sensor works fine. How would the TPS keep it from going into OD? No matter what I've done with the throttle it won't shift down.Jon

I finally got around to unplugging that top wire you circles in the picture and have not had a shift problem since. I know by reading this thread that this is a backup relay but don't remember reading if a replacement was ever found or even needed.
