It works a little better. I probably get about 0.2 seconds better on the gtech when I drive like that. You pretty much want to let the auto shift itself though.

yea, when i do that when racing, i start in 1, then go to 2 at about 5500 before it shifts as 6100 or so, and so on, then i go to 3, then D, and my car governs at 120ish, which is rite when 4th hits, but it pulls like hell for a lil 4banger all the way up to the end of 3rd at about 115

Get a hurst shifter and you're good to go! Slam it back to go up the gears, and forward to go down the gears.

That's pretty much what a hurst shifter does... except this thing does it through the computer instead of mechanically.

IIRC when you force the gears mechanically you shorten the life of the transmission. If you tell the computer what to do it is safer. At least I know when you just use the stock transmission and go 1-2-D you harm the transmission. It is just better to let the transmission do the work.

Well... it really is a balancing act that you, as a car owner, have to decide on. Doing ANY performance driving puts added stress on your vehicle. So, to use that as an argument than you must consider ALL the things you do to a vehicle in the name of racing, modifications, hard driving, etc etc. It's just part of the price we pay to drive our cars a little more aggressively than they were built to handle.
