Does anyone know if it's possible to set the automatic lights to come on when the rain sensing wipers start up? On my old 2005 Chrysler 300C, I always left the lights and wipers in automatic mode, and when it started raining, both would come on. The wipers seem to be fine (apart from the occasional phantom swipe, but that happened on the 300C, too) but the lights only come on when it's actually dark. Where I live, drivers are required by law to turn on their lights when weather conditions require the use of windshield wipers, so it would be very nice if the car handled this.

It's the law here in Tennessee and I too looked for a way to tie the auto lights and autowipers together and it doesn't look there is an option to do that. Will have to develop a mod to do it.

Just a idea...since I'm in Canada and daytime running lights are required by law, I immediately thought the easiest solution would be getting DRL installed and then your lights will be on all the time and meet the law requirements for your state, I would think?

I had DRL installed on my MO that I bought in the US and brought back up north - it cost about $175 US to install at the auto shop (Nissan dealers would be $300-400 I imagine...)

I thought I read somewhere that the US was gonna require DRL in 2011....

How did you get DRL's installed for only $175? We live close to the Canadian border and if that's the price, I'd be more than happy to drive North a few miles to have it done. Can you please provide some details? Thanks!

I just looked at my bill and it was $175 labour plus $40 for the DRL box(I had other work done so I missed that amount) so $215 CAD which is about 205 US. There is also provincial taxes, depending where you get it done plus federal GST tax of 5% plus the infamous shop supplies - just not sure if the 'supplies' applied to the DRL work or the other work I had done. It was installed at the Canadian Tire chain store which you find all over Canada...I should mention I had to take it back because the lights would sometime not turn off - they had to replace the 'DRL box'...

To confirm price, just give the closest Canadian Tire a call...

Use Rain X and then you wont need wipers. Then you just have to explain to the cop that you didn't feel wipers were necessary so the headlights were also unnecessary. Or you could just manually turn the lights on, though that kind of kills the whole being lazy thing...
