i dont see how you guys build boost with a turbo on the line. i push in the breaks and give it gas but the boost gauge still doesnt read boost its stillbelow zero. if the rpms go past about 2000 rpm it will spin the tires and break torque, plus with my auto i only put down 185 whp and 192 ftlbs of torque , looking at the dyno chart what is happening is the turbo builds boost and when full boost ( 7psi ) in my case, hits at around 3800-4000 rpm the converter will not completely lock and my hp and torque both level out and do not increase. on a ka24de-t my hp peak should be at about 5600- 6000 rpm , not 4000 rpm , so i say f it im doing a manual swap.

who was talking about building boost on the line? the only i know of doing building boost without moving is with a 2 step rev limiter that cuts spark and retards timing. with a manual tranny you can slip out the clutch off the line to begin building boost. with an auto you have to wait for the revs to climb up

Its all about putting in the correct stall converter. With the additional load on the engine, an auto will let you build considerably more boost on the line as long as your boost RPM is reasonable and within reach of your stall RPM. This does NOT make it more driveable on a daily basis, but these are the sacrifices we make for performance... right Mr Stage 5 clutch? :)

Well, whether I go ca18 or sr20, I think Im gonna go the auto route. I think manual would be fun at first, only cause I dont have a lot of practice with it....but Im lazy, and my car is ONLY a daily driver :P

best thing about auto is the consistency. it really dpends what your into. i daily drive my car. but i also like to go drifting now and a 5spd helps. alsoi like how a 5spd takes a lil more skill and effort.

i think i might build a cheap auto car to daily drive after the winter. and get some bracket racing in

not that GEO is much better but posts like that are completely useless. if you goint o post something stupid that doesnt have much relevance at least make it funny.

i always say dont knock something til you've tried it. auto kat aint too bad. 5spd is jstu a lil more funny in certain cases

Exactly...No reason at all to post that comment, just a bland post to "ruffle some feathers". No explanation or anything. lol

Add line lock to front brakes. Hit switch, light it up, on green release switch, hang on. Hot rodder trick. I can't believe all the auto hating. Just shameful :-(

until you get a setup like 98s14 siad 60' will be better with a 5spd. although the auto will more likely be more consistent

Exactly. For the longest, Ive been meaning to make a post asking for people's opinion that HAS experience with both auto and manual turbo. Not just "he say, she say".

It's simple guys...and yes you can build boost while sitting still on the line.

You apply the parking brake, mash the foot brake and step on the throttle. The engine will rev higher then with just the foot brake thus allowing for a greater load and more exhaust energy to build boost. You'll need decent rubber to take advantage of boost off the line.
