I know there is about 7% of you guy's that have a auto s-chassis car so i'm not expecting a whole lot of knowledge from this BUT thought it was worth a shot.

Anyone know how the overdrive system on a s13 works? The light on the dash doesn't light up at all, the button on the shifter also doesn't effect the way the car runs at all. so i'm assuming there is just no power at all to the overdrive switch. Which if i remember correctly is on the left side of the shifter closest to the radio? anyone know what i should check or look into? it worked fine last fall when the car was parked, then this spring the car hasn't had overdrive. thought it was a speed signal problem but i got the speedometer to work just fine. any other things i should check?

and please if your gonna say "just put a 5spd in it" don't post.

So what you are saying is your car won't shift or it'll only get to the third gear?

So that means your revolution sensor is F'd. And replacing it is kinda annoying. You have to undo the carrier bearing on the drive shaft, undo the trans mount and replace the sensor on the driver's side on the top of the trans.

Or for now you unplug the top sensor next to the fuse box on the front passenger side. If the sensor is malfunctioning but not dead then i guess it doesn't shift but if you unplug it it should shift of the speedometer. so you have to have a working speed sensor for this to work.

I replaced mine and it shifts better once its warmed up.

If the rev sensor is unplugged the O/D should flash a few times on start up.

I prett5y sure that over drive is just a system so that with the auto trans you could still willingly stay in either 1, 2, D with O/D, and D without O/D. Turning it off keeps you maxed out in third.

the car drives fine in 1/2/D. but the car will not engage into overdrive. i didn't know if it was an electronic thing in the chassis/shifter. i do not actually have the stock auto trans in the car still it's a 2JZ/aristo swap in it. but the od just stopped working.

Yeah mine drove fine except it would only go to third, until I swapped rev sensors. I drove with it shifting off speedo for over month.
