Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I'm looking to buy the G35 Sport. I test drove the 6MT but didn't get a chance to test drive the Automatic with the paddle shifter. I was wondering if someone can comment on the automatic with the paddle shifter. I'm not sure how the paddle shifter works and it it better than the 6 speed.

Thanks,

I have driven both...I like the 6MT if you want a stick, and the auto w/ paddles if you want an auto. The paddles are nothing more than any car's automatic with manual mode...it's not like a Ferrari's paddles tied to a sequential gearbox...it's just like manually shifing an automatic but the paddles are a matter of convenience.

So if you want a stick, get the stick. If you want an auto that you can play with when you're in the mood, get the auto.

Nothing replaces the clutch/stick combo for me...there's drawbacks for both...the paddles are nice because you don't have a clutch on hills or in traffic; the 6MT is nice because it is a true manual and you shift & feel the way you want...so neither are actually better...it's all personal preference...but I do get tired of the stick when in traffic all day. I drive all day every day so I get a little bit weary of the 6MT once in a while.

Good luck though...I'm sure you'll be happy with either choice. A G35 Sport is a G35 Sport no matter how you shift it!!!

In my case, I've been a stick shift driver all my life, and this is the first auto I got. I have the G35x though, so I don't have the paddle shifters. The reason I ended up going with the auto is that I also get stuck in (DC) traffice a lot and got tired of shifting. I decided to test drive the G35 with auto (didn't even drive the stick), and loved it. Yes, it's not quiet a manual shift, but the manual mode is nice, generally shifts fairly quickly and rev matches on down shifts, which is very nice. It would be even better if it was a DSG type of gearbox...

Frankly though, 90% of the time, I just drive it in DS (sport automatic) mode. When I'm going through twisties without heavy traffic, I'll sometimes shift 'manually' and I enjoy that a lot. Bottom line is that I would recommend you drive both and see what you feel.

Regards,Tamir

If u want a sports car and plan on having fun with what ever your getting, u should go with 6MT. You will feel like a part of the machine.

If it's just going to be used in traffic and cruising all day, then you should go with automatic. The only good paddle shifters out there are currently only on high end sports cars, BMW SMG, and VW DSG. Everyone elses technology is still slow.

The feel of the 6 speed gear box is fantastic. I drove my buddies coupe and fell in love with the way it feels. My 240sx with a shortshifter is close, but not as good. I know some people grow weary of shifting in traffic but I never do. Even though I have to drive in bumper to bumper traffic everyday (mississauga to scarborough, I am sure g_whizz knows my pain), it really isn't that bad if you keep a decent size gap to the car infront of you, so you don't really ever have to come to a complete stop. But it boils down to your personal preference. You will be happy with the car either way.

I live in scarborough, but I work in mississauga right by the airport. It is very disheartening when I spend the entire 30 something km trip in second gear. At least it is better than those 1st gear trips. I have had a couple of those when there was a big accident.

Okay, I test drove the Automatic today and bought the car on the spot. I went with the Platinum Graphite with the:

Tech Package, Nav Package, and Premium Package.

I love this car.....don't know if I told you that already

I just got back from the dealer but I'll post some pic's when I get a chance this week.

Do any of you use the clear bra?...Pro and Cons....... If so where can I get it? I also have two small kids and just wanna protect the front seat backing from them....they like to kick when they are happy and I'm sure they will be happy when they see Daddy has a new ride....Is there anything out there that is child proof for the front seats? What about protecting the car seat from the kid's car seat.....

As far as wax....I was using the Zaino product line on my beloved M3...I am happy with it unless you guys can tell me anything else out that is better.

Thanks again Guys....

Congrats!!!!

I got my 3M clear bra from the dealer when I bought it (I wouldn't wait too long lest you get a chip in the paint before application). You can only really see it when it's really dusty. The only other time it's visible is the seam line. WELL worth the piece of mind for protection from stone chips! You can wash and wax it like the rest of the car too.

Congrats on the new purchase. Clear bra is the way to go asap. The child seat protectors are sold at Babies r us. They only had Black and Grey when I bought a couple. 20 bucks a pop, but worth protecting the leather. Have fun.

I assume you mean to tape the kids legs down so they don't kick.
