Ok, I have tried that reset thing (where you open and shut the door), and the self test (is the test different from the one in my 1990 service manual) as stated in the service manual, and it still doesnt work right. It wont store my selection in memory. I position everything, and then press set, both LEDs come on for a split second and only the number one LED stays on. Even if I press 1 or 2 after pressing set, it doesnt do anything. Any ideas?

All the functions of the seat and steering wheel work as they should. I can set my selection and not mess with the memory thing and its OK, but whenever I press 1 or 2 to recall the memory, its all messed up.

Also (I see no sense in starting a new thread), are shocks a DIY job??

Did you do a search on memory seats? The owners manual has the procedure, and I've posted it several times. Shocks are a good DIY project. Remove the complete strut assembly then use a spring compressor or take the assembly to a shop to swap out the shocks. Shops use powered spring compressors that save a lot of turns of the ratchet over those cheap compressors we have. If you take your struts to them they should only charge $10-20 to compress the springs for you. That way you do all the time consuming work at home and they use their machine to save you a bunch of repetative cranking.

I did the reset procedure a couple of times with no luck. Ill try it again.

With the shocks, would I take all 4 assys. and have them switch the springs to the new shocks and then reinstall?

Ok, and installing them is as easy as unbolting the 2 upper nuts and the lower nuts?

Ok, back to the memory thing, I got the procedure, and I tried it with no luck. Here is what I did:

Opened drivers door, turned key to run, turned key off (but didnt press in the button to take it so you can take it out), closed the door, waited 1 min, and open/closed drivers door 2 times.

Is that the correct procedure??

Also, in the service manual (p BF-80 in mine) it has the self diagnosis procedure. Is it the same for a 1990 Q as it is for my 1994?

Be sure to undo the 2 strut nuts on top, not the center shock nut. The bottom nut and bolt must be removed with no load on the strut, so do the top first and then wiggle the lower mount while pulling out the bolt. To set the seat and steering wheel memory: first ensure that the cancel switch on the left side of the steering column is out(off) and leave it in that position forever. Set the seat and wheel where you want them. Turn the ignition key on and push the set switch. Within 5 seconds push the desired memory switch and it will stay on for 5 seconds. Memory should be set, reaccomplish anytime the battery has been disconnected.

See thats the problem, when I set the seat, and go to press set, both LEDs come on for .5 seconds, and only the 1 LED stays on, regardless if I push it or not. it is obviously not storing my selection in memory.

That just indicates that nothing is stored in memory, ignore the lights and follow the procedure.

I've had trouble on occasion, but it was because I didn't carefully follow their non-intuative directions. All I can tell you is to print them out and take them out to the car and do it step by step. No extra button pushes and be sure to check the cancel switch position.

Ok, so should I try the reset thing again?

Could you post it again to make sure I get the right thing? Thanks

I was referring to the procedure 6 posts up. Disconnecting your battery will purge any memory from the system.

So then should I disconnect the battery and then do the reset procedure. If so, how long should I diconnect the battery for.

The procedure I described about 9 posts up. I'd rather call it a memory set procedure so we don't confuse it with the open door, etc. reset procedure.
