automatic box

I'm doing a 5 spd conversion, and while I was in the process of installing the clutch pedal, i noticed a black box in the place of where the clutch pedal should be. the screw that holds up the pedal is holding that box up. the box is connected to the subharness and everything, so im just confused as to how I could install the clutch pedal with the box in the way. Im just wondering, what is that box and is it really necessary? Could I just remove it or ziptie it up somewhere else so I could have room for the pedal? Please help I've been searching but couldn't find any solutions. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

Zip tie it away.

Shift lock control unit. Without it you won't be able to get your key out of the ignition.
