Checked out the plugs in an RB25DET to see the condition of it. I pulled out 6 autolite's #3924-11. I find that really interesting. Does Japan sell autolites spark plugs? Is that even the right plug for this engine because I haven't seen this number being x-refferenced? I find it odd because all the other parts on the engine such as the oil filter, belts are all Japanese except for the plugs.

Only thing I can think of is if they changed the plugs when they ran the engine for a leak test/ compression test here in the States.

BTW, the plugs are black dry sooty indicative of a rich mixture or weak ignition. So I know they're not new.

They use them to test with usually. They're really cheap, that's why we always see that specific brand..

Now if they use them to test with why dont they remove them and use them for the next engine that will take the same style plug? Do they normally replace the old plugs with new autolite plugs? When they test them do they run them for a long time long enough to get carbon deposits on these plugs? Maybe it only takes a few minutes to coat these plugs if running rich?

I assume the testers are the engine importers here in US.

We're a direct importer, and my RB25 had Autolites in it straight off the container. They must use them in Japan frequently.
