:help I went to my first autocross event last weekend. I was having a hard time controlling the car due to loss of traction. I was skidding on turns, braking, and at launch--even though I only revved to 3k RPMs. My tires were still cold after running the course. (The fastest cars in my class were finishing in mid 70 secs, I was 89 secs.) It felt as if the tires couldn't handle anything.

Of course, I need to improve my technique, and get better tires. I'll get 300ZX brakes, 5 lug conversion, and bigger, better tires when I get my SR swap. Any other suggestions to improve the handling?

My car is a '92 240SX base model coupe 5sp, gutted interior, stock everything except GP Sports coil-overs. Tires are CHEAP 205/60/15 (got 'em with the car) @ 40psi

thx for the link. yea, read that already, plus all kinds of other online autocross tips. However, I'm looking S13-specific handling improvement tips.

you have your tires at 40 psi ? wouldnt that cause excessive loss of traction?

the particular event I attended was held at California Speedway. It was $30 for 3 laps. Check out http://www.scca.com for events in your area. There are also other organizations that have track events.

well, if you read the autocross handbook for novices :D it advises RWD cars to inflate tires to 40 psi to minimize tire roll...

Drop ride, stiff chassis, high performance tires, negative camber for better grip on turns,

And i guess you're drifting on an open differential (no lsd), which is a ***** to do. I think this is accomidating for most of your problem. Go buy an lsd (i reccomend kaaz)

in my class, about 4 rows of 4-5 cars each, so 'bout 20, including 1 row for drivers sharing a car... Total participating was about 100. How about you? I can't imagine too many, since you got 8 laps each. (unless the course was mad short, or else you'll take like 12 hrs to finish everybody)

well this week was kinda messed up because they changed the date at the last minuite. we had 80 cars the week before and got 6 laps. Our average course is about 60 seconds. :batman
