just curious... has anyone auto-x'd the versa yet? i might be going this coming sunday... the 4th.

Anyone think this is an extremely bad idea? haha my stepdad said that i would "roll a tire off the axel" but thats coming from someone who exaggerates everything, including my age. haha...

for more info about it... http://www.scca.com/hub.aspx?hub=3

it is a legal thing to do, a closed course... lemme know your ideas, im probably goin to get some pics there if i go.

BTW: there was a subaru JUSTY there last time i went with my friend (in his mustang) so its not just nice cars. haha

I've autocrossed a Versa (#1) before. It was fun. They handle pretty well, and the 6-speed is VERY well suited to this kind of racing.

And you won't roll a tire off it's bead. You'll lose traction WELL before that happens.

If you decide to make it a regular occurrance, you will need to upgrade at least your tires, and it would be a good idea to upgrade your wheels at the same time.

Have fun! Autocrossing is a blast!

You're welcome.

If you (or anyone, for that matter) has a question about setup of your car for autocross, please feel free to ask. I've been autocrossing for... uh, 7 years now I think. Driven everything from the Versa to an Impreza RS to a Miata, and just about everything in between, in competition.

Oh yeah... before I forget... xtwoon! Don't forget to have your tire pressures changed before you go race. For the stock tires, I'd suggest 38 PSI front and 34 PSI rear, unless it's raining. If raining, do 34 PSI front, 32 PSI rear. (always want to have more pressure in the front of a FWD car, but in the rain you don't want' pressure much above stock because your car will just slip the instant you turn the wheel)

I'm getting interested to do this too. With the suspension upgrades i've done it may be pretty fun. I have one coming up in houston at the Gulf Greyhound park this Nov 4.

Now it says to get all the junk out of your car...Does that mean removing the subwwofer from my trunk as well. It doesn't move around but i'm not sure. EV your knowledge and input would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a factory sub, don't bother. It won't come out easily enough. If it's an aftermarket sub, ditch it! Less weight is better!

Most people will also take out their spare and their jack when they get to the auto-x, and put it back in when they are done. Saves another 30 or so pounds.

I run my (FWD) cars with 1/4 or less tank of gas, no spare or jack, and 4-5 PSI more air in the fronts than the rears.

If you have an S, you are REQUIRED to remove your hubcaps... it's not an option to keep them on.

I have an aftermarket sub in their now. I understand ditching the weight for better speed and handling but my subs will not come out easily at all. Was just wondering if its required or recommended.

Here you would sign up for STS class (Street Touring-Small). Not sure about the classification breakdown.

Also, up here we have a Novice class for people who have run 3 or fewer autocrosses. Try joining this class instead if possible.

Thanks i just switched back and forth between classes a few times, as you can tell from the edit marks. Its hard to find the specific info of which class i am in. I know the suspension upgrades are changing my class. Gonna give the SCCA a call tomorrow to be certain.

Also, do you know the abbv. for the novice class, i have no idea what it is. On the web page all they give you is " New to the sport, show up early"

Well, with the ST (Street Touring) classes, they are regional classes and requirements and naming conventions are different in different areas.

Generally, most bolt-on mods will put you in a Street Touring class. The exception would be a big bore throttle body, which would put you in Street Prepared instead.

Over in my region, the novice classes are called "NOVAM" and "NOVPM", depending on whether you are running in the morning or afternoon group.

So, Versa classes in a nutshell:

NOV (Novice, can run any mods you want, but must have participated in 3 or fewer autocrosses)

HS (H-Stock, car must be completely stock. Wheels may be alloy if you originally had steel, but they MUST be the same diameter and width, and within a few mm on offset as the original tires. Race compound tires may be OK, depending on the region)

ST (Street Touring. Bolt-on mods. Wheels, tires, CAI, exhaust, springs, etc... no TB mods or engine internals. Exact classification varies by region, some regions do not even have this classification)

FSP (F-Street Prepared. As ST, but you can also mod the throttle body and port/polish the intake and exhaust manifold/headers.)

Anybody in Atlanta / Georgia who wants to go auto-crossing?

I'm in the ST (Street) Class and am looking for an even match!

Just got back from my first autocross. It was alot of fun and everyone there is really friendly and helpful. Since it was my first time out they had me ride along with an instructor to get an idea of how it is. I got to ride in a mazda miata and it was almost time to change my underwear, but it was great. I did 3 runs on my own the last 2 were DNF because i entered the final slalom on the wrong side. I am definetly doing this again but will get rims and tires just for this because i've already damaged my tires by rolling on them. I forgot my camera at home so no pics unfortunetly.
