So my first autocross is this weekend and i was looking into what class ill be in. i would be in (G)stock class BUT the only thing i did was put steel braided brake lines along with brembo rotors and hawk pads. my car is slow as hell and i guess im going to be thrown to the dogs by going up to street touring class just because in have steel braided lines. my 240 is a 92 and the limit is anything below 92 can have braided lines but 92 and above cant and is sent a class up. is there anyway around this (i ask because 1991 240sx is the same car just made a year before........right?so why couldnt i be classified as a 91....)or am i going to have to suck it up and be the noob out on the course getting his *** handed to him? either way ill still have fun....but i would like to be somewhat of compitition...you guys picking up what im putting down??

You will probably do better in STS.

In G stock, you will get your butt handed to you by all the Turbo/SC Mini's on Hoosiers. In STS, at least you will have a fighting chance.

Either way, you wioll probably get smoked by all the vet drivers. But don't worry about that. Just go out and have fun.

brembo brand replacment rotors are legal for stock, any brand or vented or slotted is not

and I'm unaware of a year cutoff for brake lines, I'll have to dig out the rule book

STS can be a very competetive class as well, the benefit to running SS is you don't have to buy rece specific R compounnd tires to be competetive, the problem is that STS allos for a lot of popular mods that you might not have and even then the fastest cars are running tires made to the limit of the rules, RE-01's or falken 615's, your basic all weather isn't anywhere near those tires

build your car the way you want it and run whatever class you land in, I've run street tire calsses, stock class, prepared and now run EM, the most important thing is to have fun, and learn to drive, the biggest improvements come from seat time

I know this thread is old, but I figured I'd toss my input.Run what you have right now, you'll be better off in STS. If you like it do it again with your exact same set up. If you really like it after a few times, start reading more into the rules to see whats allowed, then figure how seriously you want to take this.In Stock class you are allowed R-comps, which can be expensive, but the mods list to the car is very short cat back exhaust, shocks and front sway are pretty much what you can do. No springs, no changing of mounts, no after market wheels. The biggest cost here for the local guy is tires. An alternative is ST or street tire. Here you are not allowed to run a tire with a treadware lower than 140. Tire manufacturers see this rule and have mad some really great ST class, Dunlop Direzza is one I've seen do very well this year. So the tires are a bit cheaper, but more mods are allowed....front and rear sway bars, and springs (maybe coilovers???) just to name a few. So you go from saving a few bucks on tires to spending on more suspension pieces.Once you figure out what class you want to run in, mod it to that class. Thats personally what I would do.

I got into auto-x well after I started modding my Evo and was immediately thrown into SM where I was destroyed. I put more money into it to win locally and be competitive if I want to National Tour. I sold the Evo to buy a stock car and mod it the specific class I want to run.
