Here is a nice article on the Altima Coupe...

http://www.auto123.com/en/info...88293

Note the extremely wrong prices on page 3, and also wrong year.

Quote »The 2007 Nissan Altima Coupe 3.5 SE carries a base sticker price of $31,398 and is fully loaded. You can add the Xtronic CVT transmission ($1,200), Premium Package ($4,100), Navigation Package ($3,000) and a 3-coat paint ($285), which will increase the price to $39,983.
Quote »At just over $31,000, the Altima Coupe 3.5 SE is very competitive. That said, its price skyrockets when you add a couple of options. In case you're wondering, the base 2.5 S model starts at $27,798 and proves to be surprisingly well equipped.
I thought of that... but no... The difference between US dollars and Canadian dollars is not that far apart.

According to http://www.xe.com/ucc/ ... 24,890.00 USD = 26,207.77 CAD

Hello! We Canadians get monster ripped off because automakers don't want to adjust to our stronger-than-before currency. I'm gona pay a good 5710$US premium over the US price just because of that.

Yeah, those are the canadian prices. http://www.nissan.ca see how badly we are ripped off for yourselves.

It may not be that big a difference in price from the a/c to a used 350z or g35 coupe in the states, but it seems to be more of a difference in Canada.

My a/c is almost $37,000 (about $35,000 usd) + taxes (pushes it to over $39) and it doesn't have navi or cvt.

It's not just cars, we get jacked for lots of other products too like books, electronics and cameras, which is why I buy most of that stuff from the states—even using costly overnight shipping I can often still save a few hundred.

The article to read is that of Automobile Magazine July Issue p60. Short article comparing the Altima Coupe to the G35 in terms of performance and styling.

The article is titled :Nissan Altima Coupesubtitled: It might look like an Infiniti, but this, sir is no poor man's G35.

Not legal!!!!

BesidesGo ahead and spend some of that money you SAVED on the Altima and buy a copy

The last paragraph of the article states:

No, Nissan doesn't expect Altima coupe buyers to sacrifice much in the way of creature comforts or style. The real sacrifice comes when you try to drive it like a sports car. Infiniti-esque looks can be deceiving.

The jist of the article is about the limitations of the high power Front Wheel Drive platform with regards to performance driving. Nothing about all weather drivability.

This article? http://www.automobilemag.com/r...coupe/

What's next, comparing Ferraris and Miatas? Seriously... I haven't heard anyone insisting that the a/c is a sports car. Non-sports cars CAN look sporty and nice too, it's not against the law. I also have yet to see any local G35 drivers do any form of performance driving on the road, in fact most just seem to go "cruising" or drive it like it was any other car. If I bought a G35 coupe I'd drive it really hard and probably take it to the track once in a while because I like cars and driving (I won't be with the a/c). Do you do that with yours? Or are you worried like the local drivers that it might get damaged, so the sports part of the car is never really realized, making the whole exercise nearly pointless.

I don't think there's a question as to which car is better; that should be clear to anyone with any amount of minor knowledge about cars. I wish certain magazine writers would stop wasting time writing ridiculous comparisons and make some real comparisons to cars in the same class and price range.

I think they have national health care in Canada; but they pay a butt load of taxes.

Hahaha, well, it depends on your definition. Most things are covered... But that's if you can find a doctor. In my city there are no doctors taking new patients and a major shortage of doctors, nurses and hospital staff. So it's great—if you don't mind obscene wait times.

I think the article is a reflection of conversations occuring on this, the G35 and other forums - so in that sense it is right on time. This is obviously a much better comparison than between a ferrari and a miata. The Nissan cars in question have the same basic engine. the AC was clearly designed to mimic some of the G35 styling cues - so the comparison makes perfect sense. I think the main criticism of the AC is the torque steer which is common to high power front drivers.

I haven't seen any recent discussion in this forum about this, besides your posts. The G35 and the a/c are intended for different purposes, so it's still a poor comparison when comparisons to more suited vehicles could be made. The same basic engine is in a lot of Nissan vehicles, nearly all in fact, even including vehicles like the pathfinder.

You can also add understeering and a heavily front-biased weight distribution to the a/c's criticisms, other things obvious to fwd cars and in no way shocking to discover. This doesn't do much to lesson its ability as a daily driver, which is its intended purpose.

Wow - perception is a MF - to date I have not started any thread comparing the two. I only respond when appropriate.

The altima coupe may not be a sports car, but the handling and agility on the a/c has far exceeded these other sedan based coupes. A/C, imo, is actually not far from being a full on sports car. It is missing one thing, which is a big thing, rwd. Yet, RWD is not the only thing that makes a sports car.

The coupe in many ways can be viewed as a sports car. It of course is obviously not a full on sports car, but we're getting there. For people that can not afford a high end rwd sports car, the coupe may play the role quite nicely. The car has handled extremely well for what it is. While I can not call the coupe a 350 Z or rx-7, I do think that it is more on the sports car side, at least for the v6.
