I don't want another arguement over "no this is right no this is right". I am honestly trying to find an answer only a person can tell me. For me to figure it out by myself would be expensive.

I am looking at wheels. Would a even width around like 9.5" be good for a auto x/road course runner? Or should i be going smaller like 8.5" in the front?

8" all around narrow offset would be your best bet.

Smaller tires are generally more responsive, cheaper to replace, and to be honest you want the tires to load up to gain heat in them. Faster they heat up the better you are.

That and smaller = less unsprung weight = faster suspension response.

i noticed with 16" they gained weight at the 8" width point and the more width the more weight.

Like the 16x9.5 RS Wantanabe sale is 20lbs each. I am looking at these gram lights i really like them and they come in 17x8.5" think that would be good all around?

Most of the weight comes from the tire usually.

I'd run the following:

Kosei K1 Racing (16.7#)16x7.5 225/50/16 Toyo RA-1 (23#)

x 4.

Looking at about 40 lbs. per corner for a complete assembly thats relatively cheap.

Plus the tire is on the outside, which i smore important in terms of inertia.

Don't run RA-1's for autocross, they'll never get enough heat in them and are generally too hard.

It sounds like you're a novice at autocrossing - how many events have you done? Do you know what class you'd like to be in?

Keep in mind STS has a max tire width of 225mm and STX has a max width of 245mm. Those both require street tires for use(RA-1 is not a street tire), so you'd be looking at either Azenis or Kumho MX's to be competitive... well, have competitive grip anyway. ;)

RA-1's worked fine on my dad's Miata ... better than the V700's.

I've never seen anybody happy with them for autocross, and given that they can stand up to 20-25min lapping sessions no problem on a heavier car(3500+lbs), I'd think they wouldn' get up to temp.

They're nice tires, just not the best idea for autocross.

Although if you really want speed, nothing beats Hoo-Hoos.

Go with the same rim on each end.

You'll find that being able to rotate your tires between each event will extend their life quite a bit.

The 240sx inherently understeers, so I don't understand why the staggered wheel setup would even be a consideration.

Then don't worry too much about the goodies on your car, as you'll be painfully slow and/or sloppy your first few times. That's just how it goes. :)

If you don't swap the engine, your car would be great in STS without an LSD or STX with an LSD. With that in mind, go with an 8" wheel all the way around and you should be good to go.

thats a great choice if you ask me. STX w/ 245/45/17 on all 4 corners of those 57s (Azenis ofcourse) and you will be good to go.
